We who preach the gospel must not think of ourselves as public relations agents sent to establish good will between Christ and the world. We must not imagine ourselves commissioned to make Christ acceptable to big business, the press, the world of sports or modern education. We are not diplomats but prophets, and our message is not a compromise but an ultimatum. A.W. Tozer
Therefore let God-inspired Scripture decide between us; and on whichever side be found doctrines in harmony with the word of God, in favor of that side will be cast the vote of truth. --Basil of Caesarea

Good, Bad, and Ugly

Summer time is a busy time for all sorts of things that keep me outside.  The other thing which has been keeping me busy and away from my blog is researching things for other people and providing to them what I find.  But I still get a chance to read my morning news items, so here are things you should know.

The Good:
Here is an interesting site which examines Roman Catholicism.

Very good examination of the religious cult of Freemasonry.  It is lengthy, so put it on pause and come back to it if necessary.  It is important information to know.  (There are some myths propagated, so beware of that; and they don’t have the LDS/Masonry connection correct either.  I was disappointed with these errors.)

I found this article about singing with lights ON to be thought-provoking.

Another good article about REAL spiritual warfare.

Did Jesus claim to be God?

Can Christians “bind” Satan or “take authority” over him?  NO!

Interesting commentary on Genesis 3:16.

The Bad:
Reviewing Andy Stanley’s awful new book.  What Stanley doesn’t seem to understand is that the church (the local assembly) is ONLY for “churched people” — i.e., Christians.   Stanley thinks that idea is totally wrong, which is more proof why he is not qualified to be a pastor.

N.T. Wright is a heretic — there is no getting around it.

Willow Creek gets more and more apostate every day.

False teacher alert — Becky Fisher

The Ugly:
Bethel and Hillsong are joining together for an event — two heretical groups joining to deceive more people.  This could be some of Satan’s finest work!

An example of all that is wrong with Hillsong — Carl Lentz and Justin Bieber.  Lentz is a wolf pretending to be a pastor, and Bieber obviously has no idea about the Christian walk.

Article "High View of Marriage" - SPOT ON.

Happily married, but thankful to see this counsel is available for those in these awful situations.

Hi Glenn,

A PS... a few of the comments to the "High View of Marriage" article were very unfortunate, but thankfully most people seemed to understand the author's point (which obviously was not "easy divorce", but divorce as a response to gross sin and a lack of repentance).

One thing that is helpful to remember in these awful situations... adulterers, abusers, etc, are often great actors, who will put on the "right show" (i.e., crocodile tears) for the "right people" (i.e. pastors/elders), in order to maintain access to their victims (usually the spouse and/or children). Yet the immediate family members of the offender are often privy to a reality that no one else sees. I know Jill has touched on this issue in her blog, about "abusive relationships" and the tactics these offenders engage in, in order to continue their evil in secret. Would that believers be more aware of this, and perhaps we wouldn't be so quick to judge those who divorce.

Personally, my husband and I have known some believers who have been through divorce. Excepting one situation that I can think of, each divorce was done with sober judgment for a legitimate reason. Divorce is always tragic. But so is gross unrepentant sin that has shattered the marital covenant!

Hi Carolyn,

I agree -- lots of those comments were 100% wrong, and often heartless and/or legalistic.

I would also like to comment on the High View of Marriage article. I agree wholeheartedly. I was one of those women whose husband was steeped in pornography, and I mean he was consumed by it and visited strip bars, etc. So, I divorced him as he never repented and would rather justify his using it. My two sons I had with him are in their 30's. My oldest judges me for divorcing his father and says I should've forgiven no matter what. Well, I have forgiven, but still needed to protect myself and my sons. So, he holds me at arms length and I'm not sure where to take this...if I should divulge to him the totality of what his father did. He was also very abusive verbally and emotionally. Both my sons have a relationship with their father and try to keep it all 50/50 as to why we divorced. It is exceptionally painful for me to experience this. Do you have any suggestions on where I can get help? I'm not in a regular church as I have left my previous one due to them becoming seeker sensitive. Hard to find a good one these days!

Hi Mountain Girl,

Forgiving someone doesn't relieve them of the consequences of their actions. That's what you can tell your son. The consequence is that your ex can't be trusted.

I'm very familiar with divorce and its ramifications, and the many reasons for divorce. My parents divorced and both remarried two more times. I have four siblings and all have them have divorced and remarried; only one married one other time while the rest have remarried two and three times. One brother-in-law divorced and remarried. And many friends have done so. MOST are for good, solid biblical reasons. My wife and I have counseled people in such situations. So I fully understand what you are going through. As for suggestions as to where to find help, I would need to know more information. Email me at jude3.gctwm@yahoo.com -- we don't want to continue this as a public discussion :)

Jesse,

The only way to know if N.T. Wright is saved is to know his beliefs about who Jesus is and whether or not he has accepted Jesus' death as payment for his sins.
