We who preach the gospel must not think of ourselves as public relations agents sent to establish good will between Christ and the world. We must not imagine ourselves commissioned to make Christ acceptable to big business, the press, the world of sports or modern education. We are not diplomats but prophets, and our message is not a compromise but an ultimatum. A.W. Tozer
Therefore let God-inspired Scripture decide between us; and on whichever side be found doctrines in harmony with the word of God, in favor of that side will be cast the vote of truth. --Basil of Caesarea
Once you learn to discern, there's no going back. You will begin to spot the lie everywhere it appears.

I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has strengthened me, because He considered me faithful, putting me into service. 1 Timothy 1:12

Random Aberrations, Apostasies, and Heresies

Good news — Clayton Jennings has lost his ministry endorsement from his home church.

Tim Tebow and Clayton Jennings—I think I’m going to be ill!  Totally putrid video.  Both announcers have poor discernment.

The word eros is not in the Bible” — Something women need to remember.

Perry Noble: the man who never, ever should have been in a pastoral position — or any other leadership position for that matter!

The beginning of the demise of Calvary Chapel.  And more slipping down the slope.

Part two of the investigation into the Salvation Army.

Another false teacher, “pastor” Colby Martin, tries to demonstrate that God really is okay with homosexuality.  Why is it that these false believers seek support for homosexual behavior but not for adultery or prostitution or bestiality, etc?  Why is it that their favorite, untouchable sexual perversion is homosexuality?!?  I’d say this was the “things taught by demons” — Satan really found the niche, didn’t he?

The Covenants: The Continental Divide of Biblical Interpretation.  Excellent article with information needed for dealing with Seventh-day Adventists and others locked into legalistic adherence to the Old Testament covenants.  (Lengthy, but worth it — I get the magazine in the mail so I could read it while sitting on my sofa!)

What exactly is “Lectio  Divina?”

Hillsong’s marketing techniques are shared for all.  Somewhere along the line they forgot what the assembled Church is for.

No, Jesus was NOT married to Mary Magdalene.

Some good information about the business cult of Scientology (it is not a religion, contrary to their claims so as to be a tax shelter).

Some real concerns with Jan Markell.

Adventures in Missions’ World RaceParents’ Guide” seems to be a harbinger of cultism.

Are you being led by a “Judas Goat”?

If you want to teach the real gospel to a Catholic, then the Pope says you are guilty of “a grave sin.”  Well, I’d rather reach a Catholic with the truth so they can be eternally saved than to worry about “sinning” against the Pope!

Random Aberrations, Apostasies, and Heresies

Spiritual Formation at Worship.  How this movement shows up in many churches, and who is behind it all.

Clayton Jennigs update.  And the plot thickens.  Oh, and now we have an apology video!  As if that restores him to ministry?!?!? Notice how it is similar to the second video — looks like just part of his normal acts, and very narcissistic.  The man should be forever barred from ministry of any kind.

Calvary Chapel is slowly sinking.

Joel Osteen needs to be careful about abusing Scripture.

Another good article about nonsensical spiritual warfare.  Don’t neglect to listen to the half-hour program at the bottom of the page.

I’m not the only one saying 2 Chronicles 7:14 isn’t for Christians.

Stop using “The Message”!  It’s a MESS.

More testimonies about the cult of World Race and Adventures in Missions.

Bill Johnson’s heresies at Bethel church.

Catholics and their worship of relics is totally unbiblical superstitious nonsense.

The more I learn about Michael Brown, the more I have to warn against him!!!  His manipulation tactics have been identified.

Homosexuality is invading more and more assemblies where the leadership is more concerned about being politically-correct than about protecting their flocks.  “As in the days of Noah…”

Shunning — an example of the cultic nature of the Amish.

As I’ve written in the past, Seventh-day Adventism is a cult.  But when there is not even a pretense of Christianity, it is hard to understand why people stay in it.  Can you just imagine Jesus or Paul having “interfaith” celebrations?!?

And finally, Fred Butler has posted his review of chapter one of heretic Hugh Ross’ book, Navigating Genesis.

Random Aberrations, Apostasies, and Heresies

Typical worship service at Ed Young’s goat pen.  Why do people think this is what church is for?!?!

Jonathan Cahn continues to demonstrate why he has no business being a Bible teacher.

YES — Priscilla Shirer is a bonafide false teacher!  There is no debate about it.

Calvary Chapel is going farther and farther into apostasy.

An e-mail from the undiscerning.  Some good thoughts about defending the faith — and the need for it.

Gary Gilley’s review of “The Circle Maker” and its false teachings.

The “Code Orange Revival” is in progress, and being a program initiated by Steven Furtick, we can imagine what it is like.  Ah, but the doctrines espoused lead to a Bible challenge!  This is indeed a gathering of goat-herds.  The name for the event is actually quite ironic.

In April I linked to an article by Lyndon Unger beginning a series exposing the false teaching about “generational curses.”  Somehow I missed part 2 of the series, and now Lyndon has part 3 posted.  The series is well worth reading.

Doubt is NOT a sign of humility and non-judgmentalism; it is a sign of denying the faith.

Sadly, this is what passes for “worship” at too many goat-pens.

Hey Andy Stanley, what about the Bible passage about not suing fellow Christians (1 Cor. 6:1-8)?  Oh, wait.  I forgot that to Andy the Bible isn’t important.

Ellen White was a false prophet from the beginning, and no matter how close she turned toward orthodoxy it won’t change that fact.

Lastly, Mary Dalke has posted another “chapter” in her series on Roman Catholicism.  She’s doing an excellent job with lots of work involved.

Random Aberrations, Apostasies, and Heresies

Well, with my 8-day vacation I’m really behind on the news.  I had a few links collected for stories prior to my departure and I’ve added a few more since yesterday.  One just can’t keep up with all the apostasy and heresy and aberrations within the Church!  But let’s look at what I’ve collected.

Calvary Chapel Association is more and more invaded by false teaching, and one pastor fed up with it has removed his assembly from the association.

Kenneth Copeland instituted Andrew Wommack’s office of prophet!  One false prophet making another; go figure.  More proof that Wommack is a false teacher to be avoided like a plague.  H/T to one of my readers.

No, there are no longer Apostles today.  The NAR are liars.

Boy oh boy — the New Apostolic Reformation’s narcissism examined.

Good advice when dealing with a Jehovah’s Witness.

Robert Morris is a false teacher.  He says that if you don’t tithe, then you open the door to demons.  He calls it stealing from God.  How many times do we have to say that CHRISTIANS DON’T HAVE TO TITHE!!!  The tithe was for Israel ONLY!!

The origin of the name “Jehovah” proves the Jehovah’s Witnesses and Mormons are false beliefs — as if we need another example!  HT Doug.

Rachel Held Evans thinks voting for Hillary Clinton is “pro-life.”

Excellent examination of Joel Osteen’s teachings!

Andy Stanley just keeps getting worse.

Just what we need, another gathering of false teachers.

Speaking about false teachers — they are not just on the Total Blasphemy Network (aka TBN).

Oprah loves false teacher Steven Furtick.  Go figure.  The man is a rank WOLF!

This is how church should be?!?!?

If anyone still has any doubt that Rick Warren is a false teacher, how about explaining this?

Did you know that a prophet who makes a false prophesy can just say “oopsie”?  Neither did I. I think Vonda Brewer should read Deuteronomy 18:20.

Speaking of false prophets — this is not satire!

Jonathan Cahn — again.  I can hardly wait to read the reviews of this book, which will be guaranteed to be a collection of false teachings.

Random Aberrations, Apostasies, and Heresies

It seems that many Calvary Chapel assemblies are sliding more and more into emergent, as well as following the “Purpose Driven” nonsense.  I find that saddening.

For a thorough examination of “The Purpose-Driven Life,” take a look at this critique by T.A. McMahon.  Yet for all the problems of the book, Christians lacking in discernment are still gobbling it up.

If you have been spiritually abused, there is still hope for regaining spiritual freedom and sanity.

More on singer Vicky Beeching’s confession to being a lesbian.  In her discussion with Pastor Scott Lively, you should readily be able to discern how she reinterprets the Bible to justify her depravity.

Recovering Grace continues exposing the false teachings of Bill Gothard by examining “Wisdom Books’” twisting of Scripture with the Beatitudes.

Michael Gungor has received a lot of criticism lately for his stance on Biblical creation.  However, that is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to his professed beliefs. He doesn’t like the story about Noah either.  His criticism of it is quite childish and irrational, all the while claiming to being thoughtful and rational!  Since Jesus and the apostles taught the Flood and Noah’s journey through it as true, Gungor has to say they are lying.  His “What Do We Believe” article is quite rambling and demonstrates why he should not be invited to perform in Christian venues - he doesn’t even believe Adam & Eve were literal.  Without that, you have no literal fall and no literal need for a savior.  That, my friends, is heresy. [links gone by 2/14/16]

Mark Driscoll is now the recipient of formal charges.  This document was apparently meant to be confidential, but someone posted it on the ‘net, and I think it is just more factual evidence that Driscoll was never qualified for the position of pastor.

Something to think about is “How to Shrink Your Church in One Easy Step.”

Along this line, read Matt Barber’s, “An Open Letter to the False Church.”

Franklin Graham is sliding further into Rome.  Elizabeth Prata also has a commentary about Graham.

Meanwhile, Elizabeth had an article exposing a song I’ve never heard of before, and she demonstrates that the lyrics are very problematic.  This seems to happen often with contemporary Christian music.

T.A. McMahon’s interview with Dale Ratzlaff about the Seventh-day Adventist cult continues with part 2.

Finally, I had to really laugh last week as I read about a Mormon professor defending Joseph Smith’s integrity.  My rapid first thought was, “What integrity?!?”  Smith was a con artist’s con artist!  Sadly, the Mormon church continues to prosper.

Random Aberrations, Apostasies, and Heresies

Well, boys and girls, it’s that time again for another collection of foolishness in the Church, as well as all other types of things brought into it by the master of ceremonies - Satan.

But, hey, false teachings abounding somewhere certainly won’t stop Rick Warren from being a guest at one of their conferences!  (OH, wait — that’s right, Warren also believes Islam worships the same God as do Christians.)  And, of course, you should notice that Mr. porno-vision Mark Driscoll will also be “blessing” them with his attendance.

Elizabeth Prata has a great “one-stop shopping” post for her articles exposing Beth Moore as a false teacher.  If that isn’t enough to convince you, take a look at my reviews of some of her teachings:
A bit about Believing God” DVD series.
More about Believing God” DVD series.
A review of “Breaking Free

I have been around many charismatics who are always “binding” Satan.  I try to not laugh at their deception, but I do ask them to show me from Scripture where that is found, and if they bind Satan, how come he keeps getting loose?  Clint Archer explains why you shouldn’t try to bind Satan.

Mormon Coffee has an interesting article about the so-called golden plates from which Joseph Smith “translated” the Book of Mormon.

When it comes to pagan celebrations advertised as being “Christian,” I think the Wild Goose is as demonic as it gets.

Over the past few years I keep reading about how the Calvary Chapel movement (denomination?) continues imbibing the whole mystical element of worship which is invading the church.  It seems to be getting so bad that another church has left them.

Ever wonder about the origin of Roman Catholics praying to Mary?  I found the answer this week.

Finally, some more excellent articles from the Christian Research & Apologetics Ministry, some of which were posted on Facebook this week.
What do Christadelphians teach?

What does the International Church of Christ teach?

Is the International Church of Christ a cult? (yes)

Random Apostasies and Heresies

The week goes by so quickly and there are so many things to report!

One of the things that liberal Christians hate is the FACT that the Bible teaches what is known as “complementarianism” in regards to roles of men and women in the church and family.  Liberals teach “egalitarianism” - that there are no different role for men and women in the church or family.  This subject blew up in the news recently because actress Candace Cameron Bure had the audacity to write a book about proper biblical roles for wives.  This, of course, gave the liberals a hissy-fit, with a feminist being particularly angered.  Stan even weighed in on Bure’s side.
Of course, the proper roles as instructed in the Bible scare the liberals.

As if Michael Brown’s attack on the “Strange Fire” conference wasn’t enough (I’m looking forward to reading these reviews), now we have Frank Viola putting in his two-cents’ worth.  Viola isn’t known for being strong on orthodoxy or church history (as demonstrated in the book, “Pagan Christianity,” which he co-authored with George Barna).  Apparently his new book about “Strange Fire” isn’t any better than Pagan Christianity when it comes to revising facts to fit his ideology.

I read a very interesting confession of a pastor who once allowed Gothardism in his church - to his regret.

Calvary Chapel, as a denomination, has had a pretty good record over the years for being fairly fundamental in their teachings.  I know around my neck of the woods I have no problem recommending the local CC assemblies, and I’ve always - in the past - have read how solid they are overall.  Well, sad to say, over the past few years there has been more and more turning away from solid teaching at CC as contemplative and mystical teaching has entered some assemblies.  News from Lighthouse Trails Research about Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa’s sanctioning of horrid “worship” in England really gets my head spinning.  The video of the sanctioned event, showing not only a bizarre “hard rock” version of “Amazing Grace,” but also the lead singer’s immodest attire.  I see nothing in the video which even HINTS at giving praise to anyone but the performers.

Still another bit of information about the bad teachings by Sarah Young in her book, “Jesus Calling.”  Did you know that Jesus told Sarah about the “filthy stable” in which He was born?

Then, of course, there is arch-heretic Benny Hinn.  Think of all the damage he has done to those who follow him!

This past Sunday was “Sanctity of Human Life Sunday,” and yesterday the nation celebrated the birthday of Martin Luther King.  Neil Simpson exposes the liberal agenda of false teachers by what was taught on Sunday.  Sigh.

Finally, I have to say that there is no way I’d go to listen to a 16-year-old “pastor.”  I’d say the very first qualification he is lacking is that he is not old enough to be an “elder.”  The video of his sermon delivered while 10-years-old seriously abused the passage about David and Goliath so as to give support for his preaching as a young person.   I just don’t understand what it is about these types of “churches” who put kids in the pulpit.  Take a look in the Bible at the qualifications to be an elder, and then let me know which of these this boy has met.

Random Apostasies and Heresies

It is getting more and more difficult to keep up with the fast pace of apostasy and heresy invading the Church.  I can only try to give you highlights of stuff to look out for and to stay away from if you want good spiritual health.  I realize I’ve only posted two articles since my last “Random” collection, but my list has gotten too long to not post another “Random” article.  So hold onto your seat-belts, because this will be a rough ride.

Calvary Chapel has in the past been considered a very fundamental denomination, and I have indeed recommended the local assemblies.  However, the more I read about various Calvary assemblies moving over to the Emergent side of apostasy, the more leery I become about recommending them.  I have personally met a local C.C. pastor, and he is adamant about keeping Emergent stuff out, so this appears to be an assembly-by-assembly thing to check.  However, founder Chuck Smith seems to be leading the way into Emergent.  Stay tuned.

Another story about Kay Arthur gives me some more uneasy feelings about her; she has a story about her back-and-forth discussion with God.  This claim to direct revelation disturbs me.

If you’ve been following this blog for any length of time, you should know that Joel Osteen is not someone any Christian should listen to; the man is about as heretical as they get.  He may be a great motivational speaker, but he is not a teacher of the Word of God.  Well, he has a new book out, which brings him again into the media spotlight.  Of course, like his other books, you will find no Christian teaching in this one, and it seems the Word of Faith heresy is even stronger.  The fact that New Age guru Deepak Chopra thinks Osteen’s teaching is good should tell you something!  Albert Mohler’s article not only exposes this, but he also discusses Osteen’s answers in regards to questions about homosexuality.  Osteen really has a problem saying that homosexual behavior is a sin.  After all, he wouldn’t want to offend the many homosexuals in his congregation.
Another example of Osteen’s horrible teaching in his new book is demonstrated by this video.  Osteen really, really has no clue what the Bible says, and yet thousands of Christians waste their money on his books!

Rick Warren’s apostasy just keeps building.  His focus on the social gospel long ago left the real gospel behind, but the real disturbing thing is his “bridge to Muslims.”  His idea is not to try to convert Muslims and bring them to salvation, rather he just wants Christians and Muslims to work together.  Can you imagine King David asking the Israelis to work together with the Canaanites?  Yet Warren has decided to work to have Christians declare that we worship the same God as do Muslims!!  This is just plain false; the god of Islam is NOT the God of the Bible.  The claim is that there are 1400 years of misunderstandings between Christians and Muslims, but I don’t see misunderstanding at all except on the part of Warren and his lackeys who do not see Islam for the pagan, violent religion that it is.  While we can respect individuals, we are not to respect belief systems which are against God and His Word, as is Islam.  Warren needs to read 2 Corinthians 6:14.  Far too many Christians are following this false teacher.

Continuing on the subject of Rick Warren, his “purpose-driven” nonsense just keeps morphing and building into more and more unbiblical teaching.  He has a new campaign to celebrate the 10th anniversary of his PDL, titled, “What on earth am I here for?”  Do you really think he’ll give you a biblical response?

On the subject of Saddleback and the Warrens, it seems that Saddleback is planning on having Kay Warren preach messages there this coming weekend - again violating the Bible’s teaching that women are not to be in that position (they previously had Christine Caine teaching, and Kay has previously done so).  They are also having Mark Driscoll come to teach, and he is someone who should not be promoted as a good teacher, for reasons I have thoroughly explained in previous articles.  However, a current, short article demonstrates the complete arrogance of Driscoll and what he thinks of his followers.

More and more Christians are pandering to the Mormons, and I just don’t understand the why behind such thinking.  Mormons are NOT Christian!!!  Another “pastor,” Robert Morris, now claims Glenn Beck is “a believer.”  Beck is a Mormon, and not even a good one because he mixes in a lot of New Age beliefs in his personal system.  Of course Morris is of the cultic Word of Faith belief system, so much of what he teaches doesn’t come close to true Christian faith anyway, so perhaps that is why he doesn’t recognized that Beck is not a “believer” in the Christian faith.

Another book has hit the shelves purporting to describe a visitation to heaven.  This one is titled, “My Proof of Heaven.”  As usual, the story is not orthodox in its claims, and a good review of it can be found at Guarding His Flock.

Neil Simpson, at Eternity Matters, has been giving lots of exposure over the past few months to Chuck Currie.  Currie seems to be one of those false teachers the media likes to give time and coverage to, so he really needs to be exposed so as to warn the sheep not to be taken in by him.  Currie claims to be a Christian, but there is no way a person with his belief system can be a true believer.  To begin with, he is a “minister” with the apostate and heretical United Church of Christ; that’s enough in and of itself to know to stay away from him.  He also promotes the social gospel, as well as every left-wing ideology conceivable - including abortion, the homosexual agenda, etc.  The man can twist the Scripture as good as any Mormon or Jehovah’s Witness, so that the Bible becomes unrecognizable in his hands.  For a good example of Currie’s teachings, take a look at Neil’s newest post about him.

Now go read the Bible and learn the truth!
