With cults, always make sure you define your terms.  A perfect example is the Mormon teaching about Adam and Eve, who certainly aren’t the Adam and Eve of the bible.

I saw a video this past week (to which I can’t link - it was posted on Facebook) with Billy Graham saying he believes in abortion for those who have been raped or if there are diseases that might affect the unborn child.  How sad for a man with such a following to be teaching it is good to murder the unborn!

The Pope idolizes Mary — for real.  Mike Gendron’s comment: Once again the pope is attributing divine attributes to "another Mary" implying that she is omnipresent in her protection of Catholics from the devil. He robs Christ of His honor and power as the Good Shepherd who promises to protect the sheep that He gave His life to save (John 10:1-30). Tragically, many Catholics listen to the voice of the most influential false prophet in the world, "a hired hand and a thief who comes to steal and kill and destroy" (John 1010:10). Not until they hear and believe the voice of the Good Shepherd will they find eternal life and divine protection.

He idolizers her so much that he has created a new feast day to honor her.

Among other problems with Billy Graham, I just learned that he was for abortion for rape!  As if the child was responsible for the crime and should be punished!  Go to the 11:35 on the video.

Two heretical, lying peas in a pod: Bill Hamon and Sid Roth.  Roth supports such fakery as a direct revelation to Kevin Zadai which says praying in tongues will enrich you!  This last one Jesus plays a soprano saxophone, and other nonsense—such as Jesus played himself out of hell on the saxophone.

Michael Brown promotes heretic Sid Roth, as well as joining him in his false teachings and Word of Faith heresy as he lies about direct revelation from God.

Lots of things in the news this past couple weeks which need to have warnings about.  Hold on to your hats!

Steven Furtick, narcissist.  Real Christians should avoid him like the plague while he can feed his goats all day long.

Perry Noble is being revived with the help of another false teacher, Steven Furtick.  Wolves run in packs.  (I hate to bust Noble’s bubble, but “alcoholism” isn’t a disease.  It’s a lack of self control.)

Random Aberrations, Apostasies, and Heresies

I guess a good place to start with this report is examining the reviews about the latest Hollywood depiction of biblical events.  You just know it has to be bad, don’t you?  The movie is, “Exodus: God and Kings.”  I never bother attending these sorts of movies, since they will always be nothing more that leftist, liberal nonsense.  Of course my suspicions are always proven correct when I read the reviews.  There were many reviews out there, but I’ll point you to just three.
Answers In Genesis was about the first non-secular review, and just this review was enough for me.  The Gospel Coalition showed us How to Ruin a Moses Movie.  The last one worth sending you to is in “Bible History Daily”; they thought the movie was “excruciating.”

Mark Driscoll is back, un-biblically claiming to be a pastor.  His web site looks to be quite narcissistic, and he could really use your money.  I think the apologetics world has provided more than enough evidence proving that Driscoll is unqualified to be a church leader, and it doesn’t matter if he’s in a church on on a web site!

More apostasy with James MacDonald — he’s even built a facility for the heretical station TBN!!!

Sola Sisters has a good examination of Sarah Young’s "Jesus Calling".  Then you can read a new interesting booklet available from Lighthouse Trails Research Ministry — “The New Age Implications of ‘Jesus Calling’.”

The atheists, as well as the rest of the non-believing world, do their best to make sensationalistic claims against the Christian faith.  It is usually best to just ignore such foolishness, but this latest example just really got my head shaking.  A very liberal feminist says that God raped Mary.  This is a person who really doesn’t believe in God or the Bible, and yet she makes such foolish claims about that in which she has no belief!  A truly Romans 1:18-32 moment.

Of course by now you have probably read about or have seen the Newsweek article about how the Bible is so misrepresented.  The only misrepresentation is by Newsweek!  Albert Mohler responds to the article, as does “canon fodder” (be sure to catch the link to part 2), and Daniel Wallace.  Of course, none of these rebuttals will be published by Newsweek — truth is not allowed.

Elizabeth Prata had a really good article about the SIN of listening to and following false teachers.  She then had an article about Billy Graham, a false teacher who has been used by the Lord but is a false teacher nevertheless, with some really dangerous ideas!  (In the comment section you can read about some similar problems with his son, Franklin.)

Random Aberrations, Apostasies, and Heresies

Well, it’s been almost a week since my last post.  We were 500 miles away from home due to the death of my father-in-law.  Getting caught up now is going to take me a while!  I figured I may as well start out with a “Random” post based on links I’ve collect the past couple weeks.

Oh joy!  Roma Downey has a new TV show.  Downey, a New Ager/Roman Catholic, will be highlighting false teachers — as standards of truth!!!!

Erin Benziger gives a perfect example as to why I rarely step into a “Christian” bookstore.  They are minefields of aberrant theology, apostasy, heresy, and even outright blasphemy — let alone idol worship!

Freemasons have claimed that Jesus was married and had children, the Mormons have claimed that Jesus was married and had children, the “Da Vinci Code” made similar claims.  And if that wasn’t enough people lying, you can buy a new book with the same story!  And of course they all say the the wife was Mary Magdalene.  Someone really needs to get a new lie.

While this article may be a bit humorous, there is much truth in it.  The way so many in our culture see Jesus has no resemblance to the Jesus of the Bible.

Many people claim to have come to Christ due to Billy Graham and his crusades.  However, as I have previously pointed out, Billy Graham is not really a good teacher!  He may be used by God to reach people, because God can use many things to reach people, but he still has some really rotten teachings and theology. After all, many of those attending his crusades are sent to Roman Catholic churches for further spiritual guidance, and he teaches a form of universalism.  Additionally, Graham has very often sanctioned false teachers, and his political affiliation is the Democratic party!  I could give a whole lot more reasons why Billy Graham should not be followed or recommended, but I’ll leave that to this article by Elizabeth Prata.

Sola Sisters has a great article about Reconstructionism (and Dominionism), of which I have many times stated is a legalistic and aberrant theological system.

Neil has a good examination of one of the prayers to “Mary” used by the Pope.  As Neil notes, this prayer gives Mary the attributes of the Holy Spirit.

If you want to know who to watch out for in regards to bringing the “new spirituality” into the church (stuff like lectio divina, labyrinths, contemplative prayer, Spiritual formation, etc), Lighthouse Trails Research Ministry has a listing of them.

Lastly, Lighthouse Trails also has a report about the damage control at Thomas Nelson in regards to Sarah Young’s book, “Jesus Calling.”  Thomas Nelson apparently only cares about false teachings when an uproar is made, since they still publish Benny Hinn.

Random Apostasies and Heresies

I’m thinking about discontinuing this “Random” series as a regular posting.  It takes a lot of time reviewing all the goofy stuff in the Church, and there are many more articles I want to write!  If you are interested in keeping up to date with such problems, about half of my sources are listed in the blogs I follow on my profile page, while a few more are on ‘My Blog List” and “Some favorite apologetics sites” listed in the right-hand column of this blog.   Rather than wait until I have a collection, I think with more important issues I’ll just do a short report pointing to the article I refer to.  I guess we’ll just see how it goes, but I think alerting Christians to what is happening in the church, and what to avoid, etc, is very important.

Tim Keller has more issues we need to be careful about; he is teaching Romanist and Quaker mysticism.  Why is it so many good teacher seem to think this mysticism is good?!?!

Steve Chalke, who is supposed to be the U.K.’s leading evangelical, is 100% for same-sex fake marriage.  He equates supporting such an abomination with opposing slavery.  As with other so-called Christians who support same-sex fake marriage, Chalke just says we don’t understand what the Bible says about homosexuality.  Yeah, right.

And of course the ever-apostate United Church of Christ is also increasing their push for the legalization of same-sex fake marriage nation-wide.  More people who don’t read their Bible!

Ken Silva posted an article by Gary Hand examining the heretical “Wider Mercy Doctrine” - the “belief that salvation can be obtained even when a person has not heard the gospel and does not know Jesus Christ.”  Yep, a form of universalism.  Heretic Robert Schuller has taught this, and so has Billy Graham.

Where is Steven Furtick’s gospel teaching?

I learned of something new this week: “Incarnational Ministry.”  The Cripplegate examines this idea - and why the title is wrong-headed.

Apprising Ministries posted another article about problems with Nicky Gumbel’s The Alpha Course.  I don’t think we can have enough articles exposing this spiritually damaging course.

I’ve posted some short items about spiritual abuse in the past, but I think it is another very important issue to understand.  There are many false teachers us use spiritual abuse to control their followers, and one of the first names which comes to my mind is Bill Gothard!  (Just read the many testimonies at Recovering Grace.)  I highly recommend the book, “The Subtle Power of Spiritual Abuse,” by David Johnson & Jeff VanVonderen, which I picked up 12 years ago at a Biblical Counselors’ Conference.

Ken Silva posted an excellent article on the subject, “Beware of Spiritual Abuse.”

I wonder what in the world is going on with Andy Stanley?!?  I previously pointed out his apparent approval of homosexuality, but now he thinks President Obama should be titled, “Pastor in Chief”!!!  Barak Obama, the man who is the most pro-abortion president in history (and who called a child, “punishment”), the man who is the most pro-homosexual agenda President in history, and the man who is the most pro-Islam and anti-Israel President in history - and Stanley thinks he should be called “Pastor in Chief”?!?!

I direct you to three good articles on the subject by two apologetics ministries: Apprising Ministries (which includes other information about Stanley’s pre-inaugural sermon) and  Sola Sisters.

Don Veinot, of Midwest Christian Outreach, has a good example of how to respond to those who say we are mean for exposing false teachers.  I’ve heard Don in person tell about his method of responding, and I always liked it.  In this article he gives some examples of assaults he has responded to.

For those who aren’t convinced that Todd Bentley is nothing but a show-boating charlatan of a false teacher, take a gander at the video provided by Ken Silva.  All I see is a demonic spirit behind Bentley - it certainly isn’t anything holy.

Just remember to be alert at all times - the wolves are watching for their opportunity to devour the sheep.
