We who preach the gospel must not think of ourselves as public relations agents sent to establish good will between Christ and the world. We must not imagine ourselves commissioned to make Christ acceptable to big business, the press, the world of sports or modern education. We are not diplomats but prophets, and our message is not a compromise but an ultimatum. A.W. Tozer
Therefore let God-inspired Scripture decide between us; and on whichever side be found doctrines in harmony with the word of God, in favor of that side will be cast the vote of truth. --Basil of Caesarea
Once you learn to discern, there's no going back. You will begin to spot the lie everywhere it appears.

I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has strengthened me, because He considered me faithful, putting me into service. 1 Timothy 1:12

And Yet Another Agglomeration

Three Key Principles of Biblical Interpretation.

What should be the Christian view of slavery? Why did God condone slavery? Early Christian Views of Slavery.

Biblical Sexuality: What the Church Gets Wrong & What the Bible Actually Says

Are massive “revivals” actually happening at the universities?

Jesse has three good examinations of Roman Catholic teachings: A Critical Evaluation Of Teresa Of Avila’s Nine Levels Of Prayer and When Worship Walks: The Prophets' Critique Of Eucharistic Idolatry and God's Transcendence In Communion: A Symbolic View.

A HUGE problem with Catholic leadership: Cardinal Dolan Hails ‘Our Islamic Brothers and Sisters,’ Calls Ash Wednesday ‘Our Ramadan. Islam is the region of the devil and is evil. Islam seeks to kill all Christians, let alone Jews. They recently beheaded 70 in Congo.

Amazon has a new TV series: House of David. Another unbiblical series, of course. Don’t waste your time. Review of episode 2.

Paula White preaches nothing but lies. AVOID this wolf! And yet our President has her for a “spiritual advisor.”

Daystar + Culty Kathryn Krick = A Dangerous MESS!!  A bit more about Kathryn.

Has the PCA disciplined the Session participants? For Black only event?!?  And what about their missions helping illegals deceive law enforcement? For print coverage, go here.

Atlanta Pastor Calls Blacks Who Support Trump “Coons” and “Runaway Slaves”. The man is NOT a pastor and with his ideology I’m not sure he’s a Christian.

PCUSA is more evil with attitudes towards sex than just promoting homosexuality and transgenderism—at their youth camp boys claiming to be girls can sleep and shower with girls.

Important Odds and Ends

The “revival” in Asbury is getting people excited, but is it really a move of God? I think THIS article, with citations from the first one, has some valid questions.

Here’s Why You Should be Very Skeptical of the Supposed Asbury Revival. For one thing, heretic Todd Bentley was there!  Additionally, you have the Kansas City “prophets,” Rick Warren, and Francis Chan getting in to the mix.  If it was really a move of the Holy Spirit, would He allow false teachers to speak there?

A really good video about “Jesus, The Soul Shepherd.

What Are Judeo-Christian Values? An interesting review.

Excellent, although lengthly, examination of the false teaching that Christians can be demonized/demon-possessed.

What’s Happening in the Church?  Just things I’ve been point out for years.

The blasphemy of false teachers in false churches knows no bounds.

Adding to the Gospel is heresy.

The millions of dollars spent on this advertisement could have been better spent helping those in need. “He Gets Us” is false teaching.

Heretic Tim Keller and The Gospel Coalition have written a commentary on creation. Just what you’d expect—total, absolute lying nonsense.

Church’s Open Mic Night on ‘Biblical Sexuality’ Creates Nationwide Buzz

What is it with churches which think we need to affirm homosexuality!?!  It’s getting so bad that we even have a “pastor” who says if you believe same-sex attraction is a sin you are like Satan!  So-called “pastors,” like Andy Stanley, host active homosexuals for kids LGBTQ conferences and other homosexual-affirming events, etc.

I consider Andy Stanley to be totally apostate.

The Church of England continues to prove it is a church of SatanAnd again.

Just Because It Is Attractive, That Doesn’t Mean It’s From God

No matter how attractive the movement may appear, if it is not founded in righteousness and nurtured in humility, it is not of God.  If it exploits the flesh, it is a religious fraud and should not have the support of any God-fearing Christian.  Only that is of God which honors the Spirit and prospers at the expense of the human ego.  “That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.”

Random Aberrations, Apostasies, and Heresies

This week I had a young lady ask me what I thought about Becky Tirabassi’s teachings; having never heard of her before, I started the “Google” thing.  This is my summation:

Her church is one of those “market-driven” types which has lots of programs.  Classes I read about are sort of “me” focussed, with some on “spiritual disciplines” which usually means mysticism, such as the emergent church movement.  In fact, the church just might be emergent, since they do not state their doctrine.  And I’d really like to know what a “pastor of assimilation” does (staff member)!

Becky violates Scripture by being a pastor—co-pastor with her husband.  That is a bad setup from the get-go.  From reading about her on the Internet, a lot of her teachings seem to appeal to emotions, especially with a lot of pop-psychology.  And her close association with Joyce Meyer — who is a rank heretic — is very concerning.  She talks a lot about having “
as much of the Holy Spirit as you want,” but we can’t have any more H.S. than He who lives in us.  That is a favorite claim of charismatics - you just need “more” of the Holy Spirit.

Becky might have some good teachings (as does Beth Moore), but I wouldn’t trust her at all.

Speaking of Beth Moore, she is  Adorable and Dangerous.   She has more false claims of revelation from God, and she narcigetes herself [link gone by 7/18/18] into Acts 16:14.  How bad can she get?!?!

The sometimes questionable issues with Kay Arthur.

HT to Erin at Do Not Be Surprised… for the next two items:

False teachers are now getting another venue to spread their lies —
on Netflix.

Mark Driscoll, who has been proven to be unqualified to be a pastor, is now starting a new church in Phoenix.  I guess he needs more people to abuse.

It’s that time of the year for seeker-sensitive false churches to bring out the sex and sensuality for their “sermons.”

Does the Bible really say we’re not to judge? Marsha West has an excellent article addressing this subject.  Of course anyone who has read my blog for any length of time knows my answer to the question.  As I noted on Marsha’s article, “If I had dollar for every time someone asked me if I confronted the accused false teacher IAW Matt. 18:15-17, I could take a cruise to Scotland!

Doug Evans has an excellent article exposing Rick Joyner as a false prophet, let alone a false teacher!

Alec Satin has a great article about the Catholic practice of praying the rosary.

The Passion Translation” is as bad as “The Message.”  Neither one are Bibles — just pretend Bibles pushing agendas.  Just like the cult versions.

Another example proving that the NAR people are bloviating false prophets.

Now that I’ve broached the subject of the NAR, here is a great collection of articles about the New Apostolic Reformation and all its false teachings.  These people are dangerous to the REAL Christian faith.

And, finally for today, Gary Gilley has good examinations of the “Toronto Blessing” and its offspring, the Brownsville Revival.  These circuses were nothing less than demonic.

Random Aberrations, Apostasies, and Heresies

My, oh my, oh my.  Keeping up with the collapse of the Church at large is a never-ending task.  There are so many good sites doing the same thing I’m doing, with periodic collections of news items, that you’d think we could catch most of it to warn the sheep about, but with so much false teachings out there it really is an impossible task.  Here are examples of some sites I recommend for keeping up with the latest (some of the articles I point to will often come from these sites):

Do Not Be Surprised, has weekly “This ’n’ That” roundups.

Asleep No More has “Random Bits

Eternity Matters has taken sort of a hiatus from his “Roundup” as he’s been concentrating on examining all the abortion news as well as exposing the “Christian Left.”  Just the continual update on the latter should open your eyes to those who are bent on destroying the true Church.

Living4HisGlory has “Warning You With Tears Wednesday.”

There are more of these types of sites, but don’t be shy about visiting these for starters.

Okay, now for the news!

Along the false gospel vein, is a followup on the Mike Adams’ article I posted about last week as he now examines “The Counterfeit Christian.”

Last week I also told you about an upcoming Beth Moore Simulcast; here’s a good examination of what it will most likely be teaching — and you can see just how dangerous this woman is as a teacher!

Fred continues his review of “Which Bible Would Jesus Use?

Last week I told you about the false prophet who invaded John MacArthur’s church; now here’s an update on this guy showing just how bad of a false prophet he really is!

A history lesson about the Cane Ridge Revival, which so many Christians hold up as a great event spreading the gospel — sounds like much of it was nothing but the same emotionalism found in today’s false revivals.

Another look at history is Elizabeth’s article about a Baptist publication list from 1870 when compared to Lifeway’s 2015 best-seller list.  The 2015 list just demonstrates that Lifeway is more about making money than protecting the flock from spiritual danger.
Lastly, some humorous truth about the teaching of Joel Osteen and what his “sermon prep” information must look like.

Spurious Revivalism

American Protestantism is characterized by a peculiar evil which I may describe by the term "spurious revivalism."  The common mischief resulting from all its forms is the over-hasty reception into the communion of the churches of multitudes of persons whom time proves to have experienced no spiritual change.  In most cases, these mischievous accessions are brought by sensational human expedients.  It is an unpopular thing for a minister of the gospel to bear this witness.  But it is true.  And my regard for that account which I must soon render at a more awful bar than that of arrogant public opinion demands its utterance.

R. L. Dabney, 1892, cited in The Berean Call, "Quotable," September 1992

True Revival

“We must remember also that at such a time of revival the devil is anxious to produce counterfeits and cause confusion.  He turns people’s attention to the phenomena, to the experiences, to the excitement; and there are always people who look only for such things.

"So the question arises as to how we can tell the difference between the true and the counterfeit.  There are certain tests which can always be applied.  True emotion produced by the Holy Ghost always leads to humility, to reverence, to a holy love of God.  A man may sing, or may dance for a while; but that does not persist.  It is temporary and due to the weakness of the body; but what is permanent, and what proves genuineness, is that the man is filled with a sense of awe."
D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones, God’s Ultimate Purpose: An Exposition of Ephesians 1, pp.287-288.

Perhaps if people would think about this, false revivals such as at Toronto and Pensacola in past years, and the many more localized events led by Todd Bentley and his ilk, would fall flat.  Forced “revivals” are always false revivals.

Manifestations in the Church

Robert Liichow, a former member of Benny Hinn’s circus, now has an apologetics ministry aimed mainly at the Word of Faith movement, TBN, and that sort of stuff. I previously read one of his earlier books, The Two Roots of Today’s Revival, and found it to be very well researched, so I decided to read another one, Blessing or Judgment? The Origin of Manifestations in the Church.

If you are interested in learning the origins of “holy laughter,” “slain in the spirit,” “spiritual drunkenness, animal noises and “gold teeth” found so prominently in the “revival” movement (Toronto, Brownsville, Lakeland, et al), this book has very good background research and gives an excellent, biblical critique, demonstrating the occult origins of all these manifestations.

An interesting note I have read elsewhere but found reiterated here is the fact that those seeking some of these manifestations are actually told NOT to pray in Jesus’ name: “While on the prayer team, we were instructed NOT to pray in Jesus’ name. We were told NOT to pray for the needs of the people. The only thing we were to do was touch people on their forehead and say, ‘More, Lord!’ and keep repeating that until there was an ‘impartation’ of the spirit being promoted in the meeting…Any deviation from the limited procedure would result in being removed from the prayer team, which did happen to a few individuals.”

That is bizarre! Liichow makes a very good point when he says, “We must not try to make the scriptures fit our experience. Rather, we must take our spiritual experiences to the Bible to see if they fit; if they do not, then we must abandon our non-biblical experiences.”

This is just a small taste of what Liichow has in store - this is what the book is about. Add this one to your apologetics library.
