We who preach the gospel must not think of ourselves as public relations agents sent to establish good will between Christ and the world. We must not imagine ourselves commissioned to make Christ acceptable to big business, the press, the world of sports or modern education. We are not diplomats but prophets, and our message is not a compromise but an ultimatum. A.W. Tozer
Therefore let God-inspired Scripture decide between us; and on whichever side be found doctrines in harmony with the word of God, in favor of that side will be cast the vote of truth. --Basil of Caesarea
Once you learn to discern, there's no going back. You will begin to spot the lie everywhere it appears.

I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has strengthened me, because He considered me faithful, putting me into service. 1 Timothy 1:12

Random Aberrations, Apostasies, and Heresies

Another article via Erin: I am soooooo sick and tired of pastors goatherds using people in the entertainment industry as “Bible Study” aids.  It’s as if they have no idea what the Bible is!

Another example of problems with “The Message” and why NO ONE should use it.  It is a “mess.”

C. Peter Wagner declares that the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) is not a cult, and I agree.  It’s just a whole lot of false teaching with some of the most aberrant theology out there.  It is Dominion” theology, which is not centralized to any specific group of people—which is unfortunate, because if it was centralized it would be easier to point to the problem people!  They are nothing but false prophets and wolves.

The unbiblical nature of prayer circles, and who is promoting them, including people you’d think would know better.

Excellent article exposing the cult of Gothardism, and their current best-known propaganda family, the Duggars.

Why “War Roomshould not have used Beth Moore or Priscilla Shirer:  They are both false teachers.

I’ve alerted my readers to the false teachings Oprah Winfrey and the spiritual dangers of watching her show or following her teachings.  This video is six years old, and I’ve seen it before, but I’ve not posted a link to it.  Now you can see from Oprah’s own mouth that she cannot be a Christian as she claims.

Tim Challies has a good review of Paul Young’s new book, “Eve.”  Like “The Shack,” it is rife with unbiblical and heretical teachings.  Don’t waste your money on it.

Another frequently abused Bible passage is John 14:14, and the Word Of Faith cult is the guilt party, spreading the lies about this passage to non-discerning people who think God is a virtual Santa Claus.

In my last “Random” post I noted another false teacher setting a date for the end [the link was gone by 12/30/16 and paragraph was deleted].  His name is Chris McCann, and he was a follower of Harold Camping.  Go figure.

Steven Furtick’s use of his church to advertise his books and enrich himself even more is downright disgusting.  The video is almost 42 minutes long, but well-worth for understanding several other aspects of this false teacher and his abuse of his position.  You’ll also learn some more about Ed Young’s wealth and his association with Furtick, as well some exposure of other mega-church false teachers.

UPDATE 9/25/15:  I have been advised by a reader that while the particular article about Jonathan Cahn is good, the linked page is by Walid Shoebat.  I've never heard of him, but he is a false teacher with "unsubstantiated claims about his past and defends the false idolatry of the Catholic Church" including icons, images, veneration of saints and relics, etc.  So those of you who went to the link, beware that anything else other than the article about Cahn may very well be false teaching.

The pope is again speaking on “climate change,” full-bore with the LEFTIST agenda.  Since he’s supposed to be speaking for Christ, why is he being such a false teacher?  Oh, wait, that’s the whole history of the papist church.  There is absolutely NO evidence that man is causing any climate changes.  The planet has gone through hot and cold cycles since creation, and yet the pope has no clue.

Lastly, The problem with Christian films.  I have to agree with this viewpoint.

Random Aberrations, Apostasies, and Heresies

I was going to wait until tomorrow for this post, but I’m going to be so busy with a funeral tomorrow that I don’t think I’ll have time for this, so here you go for today!

The Roman Catholics really have as many problems with their followers as any other denomination, even though they claim to have the direct line to God with their Pope.  A Catholic School in New Jersey suspended a long-time teacher because she defended real marriage on her Facebook.  And the local bishop supported the school!!! How dare a Catholic teacher mention that same-sex fake marriage is wrong while she’s employed at a Catholic school!  Will the Roman hierarchy excommunicate the bishop?  Will they excommunicate the school authorities and reinstate the teacher?  I won't hold my breath.

Lighthouse Trails Research Project has another on-line (and hardcopy for purchase) booklet-tract.  This one is part two of “Oprah Winfrey’s New Age ‘Christianity’”  It exposes Neale Donald Walsch also.

From Elizabeth Prata, “Marks of False Teachers, a discernment lesson.

Going along with that one is this article about tips for bringing false doctrine in your life.

Also from Elizabeth is an article debunking the whole “blood moon” nonsense going around the Internet.

Talk about debunking, this nonsense from Charisma should be easy to debunk; it is a false movement.  What does the Bible give as requirements/qualifications for being an Apostle?  1) Has seen the resurrected Christ, 2) Was personally taught by Christ, 3) Was divinely inspired  4)  Had signs authenticating and confirming him, and 5) were the foundation of the church.  No one who claims apostleship today meets any of these qualifications.

False teacher Anna Diehl is a blogger for Christian PostRob Bowman exposes her teachings, questioning CP for giving her a platform.

Coincidental with my article about choruses, I came across this article on a Lutheran (LCMS type) site..

I’ll end with this bit of humor:  Benny Hinn’s antics set to the music of the Benny Hill show.  Looks like the demons are being loosed!

Did They Really Say That?!?

“One of the biggest mistakes humans make is to believe there is only one way.  There are many diverse paths leading to what you call God.”
Oprah Winfrey, cited in the story, “The Church Of O,” by LaTonya Taylor in Christianity Today, 4/1/02, p.38.  Reported in Brian Flynn’s book, Running Against the Wind, p.119

If this is true, then can Oprah explain all the passages in the Bible which say Christ is the only way to God?  (John 3:18, 36; John 14:6; Acts 4:12; 1 Tim 2:5-6; 1 John 2:23; 1 John 5:11-12)

Oprah Winfrey is one of the most dangerous women in the world, because she leads countless people away from God.  When it comes to talking about God, Jesus, the Bible, and the Christian faith, she is a rank false teacher.

Random Apostasies and Heresies

I’ve been gathering news items while waiting for a chance to sit down and share them with my readers.  Fasten your seat-belts - these things give a rough ride!

The charismatic movement thrives in Africa, and I could never understand why.  One of the sites I follow had a link to an article from July explaining the attractiveness of charismatic teaching in Africa, and I found it very interesting.

Charismaniac Cindy Jacobs grates on me - really, really grates on me.  I have a really difficult time listening to such heretics, knowing how rich they get off of their gullible followers.  Well, this article was brought to my attention, where Jacobs claims to have caused a cheek bone to regrow in seconds.  She claims all sorts of power to heal, as well as claiming to know that Satan put a tumor in her!  Too bad she has no factual evidence to back up her claims; I always wonder why her sort don’t spend time in hospitals healing people!

The “Women of Faith” conferences seem to continue to add bad teachers to their line-ups.  I can’t recommend that women - or anyone for that matter - attend these things.  Especially when, like this one, they have a guest speaker like Rick Warren.  Partnering with Roma Downey really leaves them with little credibility.

Not too many people know this about Mormons, but newlyweds are “punished” by the LDS by not being allowed to have family attend temple weddings.  On top of that, if they have a civil wedding to allow family members to attend, then they are banished from their temple wedding for a year.  Since the LDS consider such weddings to be an important step in their salvation progression, denying the temple wedding for a year could seriously affect their eternal position if they die before they have the wedding!  Of course in the real Christian faith, that is all nonsense anyway.  Just another example of legalisms in cults.

Hey, surprise, surprise!  Oprah had her mind “opened” by Rob Bell’s teachings!  She goes from one heretical idea to another, all the while propagating her New Age damnation to hundreds of thousands of viewers.  I think she is one of the most dangerous women in the world, because her teachings send people to hell.

The Jehovah’s Witnesses are another group who can’t seem to keep their teachings straight.  One of their essential doctrines concerns who the “faithful and discreet slave” is, and yet they keep changing their ideas as to their identity.  CARM has a good article about this subject, which you might want to use as ammunition for the next time JWs knock at your door!

A Methodist “pastor” claims there was no political statement meant in his church’s sign, which said, “Jesus had two dads and he turned out just fine.”  Yeah, right!  Mark Tooley examines the message of the sign.

Another good article from Hip and Thigh examining claims of the KJV Only crowd, this time about the KJV translators.
