How I long for singing the great hymns of the faith! (with the caveat that most hymnals I have seen contain some clunkers--just because it's OLD doesn't mean that it is good). The modern tendency of repetitive, emotive 'worship' music is so obviously influenced by music seen in occultism throughout the world -- designed not to make you think and meditate upon the Word of God, but instead to let your mind go and open yourself to the 'spirit' to enter in. In my area there is not a single church I have visited that fully grasps the importance of sound doctrine within the hymns we sing. Not unrelated, there is a similar dearth of sound, line-upon-line teaching of the Scriptures as well. The 'worship team' takes precedence with any teaching being secondary in the order of service.
Paul,
I agree 100%!
