We who preach the gospel must not think of ourselves as public relations agents sent to establish good will between Christ and the world. We must not imagine ourselves commissioned to make Christ acceptable to big business, the press, the world of sports or modern education. We are not diplomats but prophets, and our message is not a compromise but an ultimatum. A.W. Tozer
Therefore let God-inspired Scripture decide between us; and on whichever side be found doctrines in harmony with the word of God, in favor of that side will be cast the vote of truth. --Basil of Caesarea
Once you learn to discern, there's no going back. You will begin to spot the lie everywhere it appears.

I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has strengthened me, because He considered me faithful, putting me into service. 1 Timothy 1:12

Personal Bible Notes: 2nd Corinthians and Galatians

(Refer to my 9/25/18 post about the margin notes in my Bible, and why I decided to share them on this blog.)

2nd Corinthians

1:1: Paul was an apostle by God’s will, not his own.

1:22:  The Christian HAS the Holy Spirit.
2:17: The words of the Apostles are as from God.

3:7: “chiseled in letters on stones” — the Ten Commandments.
3:11: The Ten Commandments (i.e. the Law) are fading away. Seventh-day Adventists think the Law is still in place.

4:2: If they are unable to come to God (i.e. as Calvinism states), then why must they be blinded?
4:6: Notice that Paul cites Genesis 1 as fact.

5:5: The Spirit is our downpayment for our new body.
5:8: Absent from the body, i.e. at death, is at home with the Lord.

10:1: Speaking of his time on earth.
10:8 Apostolic authority given by God.

11:3: “serpent deceived Eve” — Paul treats this as factual history.

12:1-5: If this is Paul, then why vs 5? To whom is he referring?
12:14: Parents are obligated to save up for their children? Is this a command? For what purpose?

13:11: “be restored” - i.e, “mend your ways.”
13:13: This is a trinitarian benediction!

Galatians

1:1: “quickly turning away… See cf Exodus 32:8
1:8: Notice that Paul does not say an “angel from God,” for God would not send an angel with a false gospel.
1:12: Paul received his teaching directly from Christ.
1:19: James is the bonafide brother of Jesus, meaning he was born of Joseph and Mary.

2:14: quotations stop at 15, but quite possibly should include all the way to vs.21.
2:21: “I do not set aside…” i.e., nullify, neglect.

4:4: “born of woman” implies Mary’s virginity in that Jesus was not born of man.

5:15: “bite” — as a snake.
5:22-26: One’s fruit if controlled by the Spirit.

6:6: Demonstrates approval of paid clergy, contrary to the teaching of some cults.
6:8: “sows to his flesh.” i.e. spending on self.
6:16: “Israel of God” — i.e. Christians.
