We who preach the gospel must not think of ourselves as public relations agents sent to establish good will between Christ and the world. We must not imagine ourselves commissioned to make Christ acceptable to big business, the press, the world of sports or modern education. We are not diplomats but prophets, and our message is not a compromise but an ultimatum. A.W. Tozer
Therefore let God-inspired Scripture decide between us; and on whichever side be found doctrines in harmony with the word of God, in favor of that side will be cast the vote of truth. --Basil of Caesarea

Random Aberrations, Apostasies, and Heresies

A year-and-a-half ago I wrote an article about Finis Dake and his “study” Bible and how much of his teachings were heresy.  This week I was directed to this link which has some more exposing of Dake’s false teaching.

Warning signs of the invasion of the New Apostolic Reformation.

Another example as to the ungodly ideology at Bethel Redding.  H/T Marsha West

Seeing the names in the lineup for “Together 2016” just frustrates me that some usually solid teachers are joining with the Pope, Hillsong, and all sorts of false teachers in the ecumenical nonsensical meeting.  Seeking a 1-world religion?  Oh, and aren’t you just ecstatic to know that false teacher Ann Voskamp will be there?

With this history of helping pagan religions, why is Russell Moore still in office?!?

These people worship “another Jesus,” and not the Jesus of the Bible.  This is not only blasphemy, it is downright disgusting.

Midwest Christian Outreach posted a video of Victori Osteen making this heretical statement:  “Jesus was man until God touched him and put the Spirit of the living God on the inside of him.”  Victoria is just as much of a heretic as her husband, Joel.  Both worship another Jesus than the one of the Bible.

What about our “relationship with Jesus? God?

The Southern Baptist Convention is losing lots of members, most likely do to their seeker-sensitive/market-driven mentality, as well as their promotion of false teachers.

Some facts about Paul and Jan Crouch and their heresy network, TBN.  They were nothing but wolves slaughtering the sheep.  Always use discernment when reading on-line “Christian” news.

D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones vs Beth Moore on the same Bible passage.

More information about “The Shack”.  Kent Hovind’s endorsement is another reason why Hovind should be avoided.  The claims of “The Shack” just being a novel and not theology are inane, because the whole book teaches theology — pure heresy.

This may be satire, but it is really true of too many sermons.

Finally, it’s difficult to believe that this is just satire.

Today's satire is tomorrow's reality. Erwin "the Barbarian" McManus in The Barbarian Way says that we should follow the example of Braveheart and "fight for the heart of your king."

Earlier this year I saw Rev. Peter Popoff on TV. People were testifying about what great things happened after they donated to his ministry. He was offering something to donors-- it may have been a bottle of holy anointing water.

The news today mentioned a two-year-old boy being eaten by an alligator near Disney World, if I heard right. What is the best way to process that event in a world in which God is sovereign?

Oh my, Glenn, what a roundup.

"The Southern Baptist Convention is losing lots of members, most likely do to their seeker-sensitive/market-driven mentality, as well as their promotion of false teachers." YES. Seeker/market/church growth churches are going to lose faithful saints, because they cater to goats. The serious compromise perpetrated by Moore would be another reason the SBC is faltering.

The "Together 2016" ecumenical garbage - notice the plethora of ***popular CCM artists*** who will be in attendance, performing!!! Let me state that again: notice how many CCM artists are going to be there. Notice their names, and keep a mental note. Then see what's being sung the next several Sundays at your local assembly. Personally, I wish churches would dump the CCM and pick up our hymnals again... not only for the doctrinally superior lyrics of most hymnody, but also the musical suitability for congregational singing. Sadly, though, the meme you posted pretty much nails the attitude one faces in church when one criticizes the CCM Trojan Horse. CCM is often a vehicle for doctrinal compromise.

Kent Hovind... he endorses the heretical Shack? I'm not a fan of him anyhow, due to the controversy surrounding him.

The Babylon Bee "pastor finds perfect Bible verse to illustrate movie clip" - that one was too painful...

The other Babylon Bee, I agree with your comment.

Glenn,

1. Polemics may not get you killed right now, but it can certainly make it mighty uncomfortable in "Christian gatherings". Someone "corrected" me in a church group the other week. "JK Rowling IS a Christian," she said.

"No, she's a satanist. Look at the results of her work." Silence.

2. Kent Hovind's position in regard to The Shack is but one reason why I can no longer recommend him. If only he were the only American evangelical who loves that book! (Thank you for the link to the post.)

3. Just out of curiosity, which of these "guest speakers and artists" are the "usually solid teachers" at Together 2016?

Hillsong United, Kari Jobe, Francis Chan, Lecrae, Nick Hall, Passion, Crowder, Kirk Franklin, Ravi Zacharias, Jeremy Camp, Andy Mineo, Michael W. Smith, Lauren Daigle, Christine Caine, Mark Batterson, Matthew West,Jo Saxton, Mike Kelsey, Casting Crowns, John K. Jenkins Sr., Josh McDowell, Laurel Bunker, Luis Palau, Tedashii, Tasha Cobbs, Lacey Sturm, York Moore, Trip Lee, Samuel Rodriguez, Ronnie Floyd, Reid Saunders, Bob Lenz, Jose Zayas, Jennie Allen, Nabeel Qureshi, Ann Voskamp, KB, Christine D'Clario, Matt Maher, Sammy Wanyonyi, Lindsey Nobles, Amena Brown, and Josh Brewer. (list from provided link to the Christian Post article).

I see some names that were good "in the day", but not so sure about today.

People testifying on Popoff's program are not to be trusted - it's all lies. This is the norm for WOF.

As for the kid captured by the gator, obviously this is a consequence of poor parental control. God allows us to make mistakes -- He isn't a puppeteer.

Glenn E. Chatfield said...

Alec,

Well Ravi Zacharius is really the only one who has been consistently good teacher, although he has done some foolish things.

Josh McDowell used to be halfway decent -- but over the years he gets worse and worse.

Thanks Glenn - it looks like we have a similar assessment of that motley crew!

This is a fallen world (Genesis 3). People suffer due to direct human sin, as well as from accidents, illnesses, natural disasters, and other things out of our control (but that are still a result of living in a fallen world, again Genesis 3).

When it comes to children, obviously poor parenting, neglect, and abuse can and do result in harm to a child, but even the most vigilant parents cannot always prevent tragedy.

Alec: If you stated that JK Rowling was not a Christian, I'd say you were probably right, based on the stands she has taken. But you went beyond that, stating that a professing Christian is actually, actively, and intentionally worshipping Satan - well, you need proof. And no, "she wrote Harry Potter, case closed!" does not work, unless CS Lewis, JRR Tolkien, and Gary Gygax were also satanists.

While I'm on the subject, calling a professing Christian a satanist is like calling a black man a house negro (except the word's not negro); you better be able to back it up very well, or you're just another punk who needs to be beaten. There are lines you don't cross, and that is one of them.

Alec said...

Richard,

You are wronging me in a worse way than what you are accusing me of doing.

Bringing in a racist term and tarring me with it, then joining Rowling with Lewis, Tolkein and Gygax (whoever that is) and forcing me to prove anything about all of them is poor technique. These are not the same things at all, and you know it.

There is plenty of information about Rowling, her membership in the Church of Scotland and attacks on Bible Christians on the web. This is not the venue to get into it. Having said that, here are some things to think about, if you are truly interested in the subject and not just trying to destroy my reputation.

Being a Satanist is actively advancing Satan's kingdom. Full stop. It's not a scene from Vincent Price or a Black Sabbath concert. Or even Harry Potter. 2 Cor 11.14-15

Since you brought up Harry Potter, the problem with that book is not that it talks about witches and wizards, though that is not exactly a fine mark of a "professing Christian". The problem is that confuses good and evil in a profound way. It promotes the necessity of qualities that are exactly opposite those God develops. Like all good fiction it changes us through the characters with which we identify. And a whole generation of 20-somethings identified actively with the young witches Rowling gave them. Did she have an agenda? Of course she did. She has admitted it!

What do the characters in Harry Potter represent?
* A false messiah - another Christ
* Aberrant sexualities
* Superiority over "Muggles" - who do you think they are? What kid would ever want to be one of those after reading the books?

I don't know Rowling's heart - nor do I need to. God warns me to judge people's professions by their fruits.

I am fully aware of the term I used, and did so intentionally. Because referring to a professing Christian as a satanist is just as bad, if not worse.

And, no, a satanist is not just someone actively advancing Satan's kingdom; it is someone actively and intentionally advancing Satan's kingdom. The Catholic Church advances Satan's kingdom, but its members are not satanists. Because of intentionality.

Again, if you said that Rowling was not a Christian, I'd say you were probably right, based on ther views she has expressed. But you went beyond that, to the most vile accusation you could make. If my calling you out on it damages your reputation, your reputation deserves to be damaged.

The only reason I mentioned Harry Potter is because that tends to be the argument. I'm not a fan of the series (too derivative for my tastes and hints of fascism), but it does not make one a satanist.

Gary Gygax created Dungeons and Dragons. He was a Christian who
refused to refer to Jesus in his games because he refused to have his Savior be a game prop. Is he a satanist too? Am I for being a player of that game?

And remember that YOU made a point of saying you did this. YOU made it clear that you felt that leveling the most absolutely vile accusation you could was appropriate. YOU used the shock of your vile accusation as a negative example, as illustrated by you using scare quotes when referring to the people you were talking to as Christians.

Hi Richard,

Since we do not agree on definitions, we really cannot hope to come to agreement.

I've explained my use of the term "Satanist", which again is not the usage you are attributing to me by making the false comparison to all members of the Roman Catholic Church.

We'll let the readers be the judges of light and darkness, Christian or Satanic behavior.

On a side note, your language seems to violate Colossians 4.6:

"Let your speech [be] alway with grace, seasoned with salt, "

Since this is the second conversation in which you've displayed an obvious hate towards me, I don't see what benefit any further discussion with you will bring. I have no desire to fight with you.

With respect and profound disagreement with all of your points,
Alec

Alec,

I agree with you on your contextual use of the term "satanist." Richard has taken this far beyond any intent. I disagreed with his first comment but figured you could defend yourself. I allowed his rebuttal, knowing you'd again have a good rebuttal. Your case has been presented and won, and his has failed in my opinion. Case is closed.

Babies are sometimes born with birth defects due to the mother being infected by the Zika virus through a mosquito bite. Is this the sort of thing Carolyn is getting at when she writes about vigilant parents? Are we unbiblical to pray for an immediate end to Zika throughout the world? I know some believers say that praying for something dramatic to be done supernaturally is "mocking God."

Anonymous 6/17 4:18 AM,

Um, no. No one can be vigilant about a mosquito bite. The best you can do is avoid a known area where this is prevalent.

The sort of prayer you suggest is not unbiblical, but I think it is futile, because in God's plan there will be more and more of this stuff as the tribulation begins and proceeds towards the end.

People who say praying for God's supernatural intervention in things is mocking God certainly don't understand prayer!!!
