We who preach the gospel must not think of ourselves as public relations agents sent to establish good will between Christ and the world. We must not imagine ourselves commissioned to make Christ acceptable to big business, the press, the world of sports or modern education. We are not diplomats but prophets, and our message is not a compromise but an ultimatum. A.W. Tozer
Therefore let God-inspired Scripture decide between us; and on whichever side be found doctrines in harmony with the word of God, in favor of that side will be cast the vote of truth. --Basil of Caesarea
Once you learn to discern, there's no going back. You will begin to spot the lie everywhere it appears.

I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has strengthened me, because He considered me faithful, putting me into service. 1 Timothy 1:12

Did They Really Say That?

?!?
“That God’s wrath should be vented upon His beloved Son, is divinely unnatural.  Such a theory is man-made.  The atonement is a hard problem of theology, but its scientific explanation is, that suffering is an error of sinful sense which Truth destroys, and that eventually both sin and suffering will fall at the feet of everlasting Love.”
Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p.23
So the atonement as described in the Bible is “man-made”? Did not Christ become sin for us (2 Cor. 5:21)?  Orthodox theology says that God punished Christ in our stead so as to atone for our sins.   Her explanation certainly isn’t “scientific”!
Christian Science is neither Christian nor science.

I could be wrong, but I think her point is more about God's wrath. Yes, Christ was punished for us, but God was not wrathful towards Christ. God didn't have any hate or displeasure in Christ. However, I've never heard that quote before, so my interpretation could be wrong.

Mrs. Eddy claimed The Bible has been my only authority. I have had no other guide in “the straight and narrow way” of Truth”

Yet stated: Man already has everlasting salvation; there is no final judgment. We save ourselves; no one else can. “Universal salvation rests on progression and probation…. No final judgment awaits mortals…”

How utterly sad that so many have chosen to follow the deceptive teachings of yet another cult.

Cristofer:
Isaiah 53: says Christ was wounded, punished for OUR transgressions, that it was God’s will to “crush” Jesus for our sin. Orthodox Christianity teaches that Christ bore our sins, that God imputed our sins to Christ and poured out His wrath on the cross since Jesus was the only acceptable sacrifice. This does not equate to God having hate or displeasure towards His son, rather the wrath was directed at the sin for which Christ was paying the penalty.

It's not particularly confined to that one cult. I see "Christians" say that type of garbage all the time, especially the "Orthodox."

Yes, Drew you are absolutely correct - this is not limited to only CS - but to all that would twist The Word of God to fit their personal beliefs.

I would venture a guess that within America - appx. 85-90% believe themselves to be 'christian' so your comment that "Christians" also say these things is valid. But, if one takes the scripture as the final authority then of those 85-90% we would find [again imho] 15 - 20% who are TRUE, Bible believing, striving to be transformed to His image followers of our LORD. Others, are only sounding brass and tinkling cymbals.

We must keep in mind also that none of us walk on water.
