What shepherds are called to do: teach from the scriptures, exposit the scriptures, stick with the scriptures - don't let culture, trends, or itching ears determine the message ->
"All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work" (2 Tim 3:16-17).
"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth." (2 Tim 2:15).
"Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine" (2 Tim 4:2).
Steven Furtick does not speak on behalf of God, God has already spoken through the scriptures which are sufficient. Furtick is a wolf, not a shepherd - mark & avoid.
"These are hidden reefs at your love feasts, as they feast with you without fear, shepherds feeding themselves; waterless clouds, swept along by winds; fruitless trees in late autumn, twice dead, uprooted; wild waves of the sea, casting up the foam of their own shame; wandering stars, for whom the gloom of utter darkness has been reserved forever." Jude 1:12-13.

Thanks, Glenn, for posting. I've learned much from you & other Watchmen about discerning false teachers.
Re: Furtick, i suspected he wasn't a teacher of God's truth when i saw his "hey haters" video. Like really?! He oozed contempt & disdain for God's people in that video & deflected any criticism by projecting his hateful spirit onto others. Since then, i've watched some of his shows (can't call them sermons), & it grieves my heart to see the people in the audience eat it up. They should rather be walking out en masse.
I feel for his wife Holly, married to a narcissist of the highest order. I dare not judge their standing before God, but his teaching is of the devil. ~Brenda
