We who preach the gospel must not think of ourselves as public relations agents sent to establish good will between Christ and the world. We must not imagine ourselves commissioned to make Christ acceptable to big business, the press, the world of sports or modern education. We are not diplomats but prophets, and our message is not a compromise but an ultimatum. A.W. Tozer
Therefore let God-inspired Scripture decide between us; and on whichever side be found doctrines in harmony with the word of God, in favor of that side will be cast the vote of truth. --Basil of Caesarea
Once you learn to discern, there's no going back. You will begin to spot the lie everywhere it appears.

I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has strengthened me, because He considered me faithful, putting me into service. 1 Timothy 1:12

Odds and Ends to End the Year

This will be my last post of this type for quite a spell. My days are getting quit full of needful things. Be sure to follow some of the links I share to get more information about good stuff and not-so-good stuff!

The sequence to sexual immorality.

Conquest of the contemplatives.

Was Paul Against Loving, Consensual Homosexual Relationships?

Some Thoughts on Contemporary Worship [Improviso #12]  15:20 video. From an LCMS perspective but overall good thoughts about “contemporary” worship.

This isn’t a church—It’s a cult!

Just when you think the ELCA churches can’t get any worse

Hank Hanegraaff and the Christian Research Journal are no longer reliable.  Of course I’ve reported in the past that Hank had a low view of Genesis and supported the Local Church and then he attacked Christian supporters of Israel as being “racist and supporting ethnic cleansing.” Of course when he joined the Eastern Orthodox Church an article in the CRJ condemning the E.O. as unbiblical was removed from their site. Then there was an excellent article exposing more problems with Hank.  So with his latest E.O. teachings, he needs to be placed on the shelf with solidly-false teachers and his Journal tossed in the trash.

The Gospel Coalition really needs to change its name to The Anti-Gospel Coalition.

I…just…don’t…know…what…to…say.

Bethel: how much do the “pastors” make? A bit crooked.

Did Rod Parsley really say that?!?!

Church By the Glades has sold out to psychobabble.  Not only that, but they continue to prove that there is nothing Christian about that place.

Of course other “churches” also put on entertainment spectacles in their supposed celebration of the birth of Christ.

Jesse Dupantis is a champion liar, false teacher, and blasphemer.

Kat Kerr, a self-proclaimed prophetess who claims to regularly visit Heaven, has said that God showed her what happened before Jesus came to earth. According to Kerr, Jesus and the rest of the Trinity sat around debating how to save sinners, and Jesus ultimately decided to come to earth and die on the cross, although he was hesitant to do so. How do nutty, heretical liars like this woman get a following?!?!

Everything that you say is negative.

Carolyn,

Really, everything I say [write] is negative?
What about the first few links?

Here's the thing--false teaching about the Christian faith is dangerous. False teachers must be exposed. How is exposing these things "negative"?

Glenn - I quite often have a dabble in the various links you provide. If it is any encouragement this is a much needed service for the evangelical church today.

I have recently been watching YT footage of various archaelogical discoveries that shed light on the OT. Really fascinating stuff and very encouraging. YT proposed videos by one Ron Wyatt, who had discovered amazing archaeological proof of no end of OT history.

His stuff on Sodom started to make me wonder, and a bit of research into those who are both Christians and archaeologists working on the OT showed Ron is actually fraudulent. A very plausible sounding con man.

My point is that it has also become apparent that far too many evangelicals are still using Wyatt's discredited materials as evidence for the authenticity of the OT. YT comments sections full of praise for this discredited pseudo-archaeologist. This is doing no end of damage - atheists can have a field day with gullible Christians taken in by this.

There seems to be a dearth of discernment amongst evangelicals, and the work you have put in is worthwhile if it causes some to re-think what they have believed from dodgy sources.

Ken,

I've never seen those YT with Wyatt so thanks for the warning.

You are 100% correct--there is a dearth of discernment among Christians. It's rare when I hear a sermon teaching on it. Articles, yes, by ministries such as mine, but we have a small audience.

When we were worshipping at a Plymouth Brethren chuch I was asked to preach a message four times. Each message included a teaching on discernment, which sort of bothered the Gothardites, the followers of the Ezzos and followers of the Pearls; I thought it was funny that they were bothered.

Who the heck is Ron? Why would they be bothered by your sermons?

Anonymous,

Ken above explained who Ron is.

As for why these cultists/legalists would be bothered by my sermons, it was because by teaching discernment they get exposed for what they are.

What the Ezzos and Pearls do is thoroughly and perfectly biblical. In fact, in some ways they don't go far enough. My children would suffer if they dared to ever speak against me. Countless people have benefited from their teachings:

Anonymous,

THousands of people have benefitted from other cult teachings but benefiting from something doesn't make it biblical.

While some of what any cult teaches may be good, we must judge such cults by their teachings which are unbiblical.

"My children would suffer if they dared to ever speak against me."

The person who made this statement sounds like a child abuser. I don't think that parenting through threats, coercion, and intimidation is really the way to go.
