We who preach the gospel must not think of ourselves as public relations agents sent to establish good will between Christ and the world. We must not imagine ourselves commissioned to make Christ acceptable to big business, the press, the world of sports or modern education. We are not diplomats but prophets, and our message is not a compromise but an ultimatum. A.W. Tozer
Therefore let God-inspired Scripture decide between us; and on whichever side be found doctrines in harmony with the word of God, in favor of that side will be cast the vote of truth. --Basil of Caesarea
Once you learn to discern, there's no going back. You will begin to spot the lie everywhere it appears.

I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has strengthened me, because He considered me faithful, putting me into service. 1 Timothy 1:12

Discerning Truth

Discerning truth in what we hear is often difficult. Unfortunately, Satan’s voice can be very soothing and plausible, with just enough “truth” to deceive us.  As we filter what we hear, our own self-serving inner voice can also override our objectivity. We have to remember that God normally speaks to us in a quiet voice that we must diligently seek to hear and to understand through our prayers, Scripture, and Christian friends.

Hello Glen,
To address the quote you offered up on this particular comment thread, what happens when so called "christian friends" believe they are "discipling" those they believe as "baby christians," ie., myself in this case scenario, as "not as mature in the faith" because we choose not to follow their "pet" religious celebrities? Because I choose to not follow Todd Bentley, nor any of the abusive charismatic crowd claiming to "hear the voice of a god," nor give my hard earned money to these fake christians, I am labeled "unsaved," "hard to teach," "fallen away from the brethren," and "an individual that is to be shunned."

I certainly can "see" why licensed humanistic psychologists make their "visits" to area churches to "counsel" those who are having problems in their lives. I truly believe that if they quit, cold turkey, from following, believing every word, and giving their hard earned mammon to these lord it over types of religious personalities who are "in it-the false church" for the money, fame and glory of their own person instead of the Person of Jesus Christ, there would be no need for these money grabbing psychologists visiting these churches built with human hands.

Funny how "christian friends" can seek to destroy the faith that was once and for all delivered to us saints, whether intentional or unintentional. I often wonder how the Bereans were treated by others of their generation.

HI Martha,

Well, I've had similar things thrown at me when I expose such false teachers/teachings. I respond with how they are violating Scripture and compare their teaching with what the Bible says--The Bible is the Word of God and wins.

You are cerainly right about the psychobabblers finding meat for their own false teachings and when the meat leaves, they get left hungry.

I think all Christians, who are Bereans, will always be treated like dirt; it's the only way Satan can sideline them.
