We who preach the gospel must not think of ourselves as public relations agents sent to establish good will between Christ and the world. We must not imagine ourselves commissioned to make Christ acceptable to big business, the press, the world of sports or modern education. We are not diplomats but prophets, and our message is not a compromise but an ultimatum. A.W. Tozer
Therefore let God-inspired Scripture decide between us; and on whichever side be found doctrines in harmony with the word of God, in favor of that side will be cast the vote of truth. --Basil of Caesarea
Once you learn to discern, there's no going back. You will begin to spot the lie everywhere it appears.

I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has strengthened me, because He considered me faithful, putting me into service. 1 Timothy 1:12

Hodge-Podge

I’ve come across many several articles lately which I feel need to be shared.

First, I’ll give you an article which has some good teaching about divorce and which I agree with.

The remaining links are to articles exposing the bad stuff invading the body of Christ and which you need to avoid!

Hillsong can’t seem to stay out of the limelight. Now they are being sued for failure to pay their bills.

Another reason to really hate Hillsong leadership. But don’t forget the false teachers who want spiritual unity with Muslims!

Stay away from any assembly which is a part of the Association of Related Churches (ARC); false teachings are part of their warp and weave.

Never, NEVER buy or read the heretical Passion Translation of the Bible.

Well, well; another false “pastor” is leaving the Southern Baptist Convention.

Bethel just gets worse by the day. This makes me want to puke. It is not from God.

More about those apologetic false prophets. But hey, Michael Brown, false teacher that he is, defends false prophets!

Beth Moore gets worse by the day.  Elizabeth Prata has a good back-story on Beth.

Real Christianity is being hijacked by pretenders.

Lisa Bevere is a teacher to really, really avoid.

A friend at work was leading a Bible study. So I went. He handed out print outs of Proverbs that we read. I'm thinking, this just sounds weird. It kept saying 'lover of God,' for one thing, in place of 'godly.' Figured out it was the Passion translation. It was so sad realizing that they basically deleted the word 'godly.' Not surprising, really, for a cult that relies on signs and wonders and feelings (get that sappy weird lovey dovey passion in there). it was just really sad. It just denegrates God - treats God as something common, and worse with that new video out about Bethel talking about laying with God and kissing. Where is the discernment? I asked my coworker about the grave soaking that they do and he's avoided me ever since. This is a smart man, too. He holds a high position at work. I also have friends that just love Jesus Culture music. They do not care about the teachings behind it. I have been trying to find a church that does not play Jesus Culture in my area. And then it became apparent that their music is played in churches all over. Where is the discernment? Not many care. It's heartbreaking.

Glenn,

My husband and I both appreciated the first article you posted.

For the rest of your links, well, wolves gonna wolf...

One blessing of Trump's presidency and the events of the last year or so... it has revealed more false teachers in the church. The "woke evangelical" crowd being some of those now being unveiled as phonies.

Hi Carolyn,

Ref the unveiling of false teachers. You sure got that right!

Yes, Glen, thank you for posting these articles that we need to read. There is so much false teaching that it is getting more and more concerning (disgusting!) all the time. "Where is the discernment? Not many care. It's heartbreaking." I can't say it any better than that!

Anonymous,

Is there any serious difference in meaning between the renderings "godly" and "lover of God?"

If you love God, then you will serve Him. A godly person is a lover of God.

Glenn E. Chatfield said...

Jesse,

You have to understand the context of "lover of God." The Passion translation fosters the whole "Jesus is my boyfriend" ideology and along with that God is likened to a lover.

Responding to a troll might also help others understand the context of the relationship between the church and Christ.

FIRST, the contrary to the blather of so many false teachers who want everything in the O.T. to be about Christ, the Song of Solomon has nothing to do with Jesus; it's just a love sonnet about two lovers.

SECOND: Paul uses marriage as an analogy for the relationship between the entire church as a body and Christ-- not between Christ and individual Christian. Paul also uses the relationship of Christ and the Church as a metaphor for marriage.

There is absolutely nothing in Scripture to support any "Jesus is my boyfriend" and "God is my lover" deviant heresies.

I just read that Beth Moore has left the SBC! I wonder what effect it will have on that denomination overall.

Wayne,

Beth Moore leaving any denomination can only benefit that denomination!
