We who preach the gospel must not think of ourselves as public relations agents sent to establish good will between Christ and the world. We must not imagine ourselves commissioned to make Christ acceptable to big business, the press, the world of sports or modern education. We are not diplomats but prophets, and our message is not a compromise but an ultimatum. A.W. Tozer
Therefore let God-inspired Scripture decide between us; and on whichever side be found doctrines in harmony with the word of God, in favor of that side will be cast the vote of truth. --Basil of Caesarea

Beware of the Bad and/or Ugly in the Church

Not all which claims to be a church of Christ is, nor are all who proclaim to be teaching Christ really teaching Christ.  Here are some more good examples of aberrations, apostasies, and even heresies to watch out for, and to protect yourself and others against.

Why is this man still a deacon, and why has he not been excommunicated? The Catholic Church needs to police its leaders.

Catholic leaders keep proving their religion is of the devilAnd again.

The burden of the heresy of purgatory for Roman Catholics can get quite bizarre.

Interfaith dialog” with Muslims just lets THEM undermine Christianity and our country.  Even Erwin Lutzer, in his book, The Church in Babylon, cites Muslims themselves making this claim!

James White — WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?!?!?

The Bible says we are to obey the laws of the land, but that doesn’t seem to matter to the Catholic Church as their Jesuits are doing their best to assist illegal immigrant invasion into the USA.  If the Church doesn’t support this, then where is the denouncement from the Pope? Because the Pope himself is against national borders. (Just another example of the RCC NOT being a church of Christ.)

Andy Stanley is trying to sell a new book to finance his false teaching. The book, of course, is also false teaching. BEWARE!

William Lane Craig is usually a pretty good apologist for the Christian faith, but when it comes to Genesis, find an apologist who accepts God at his Word.

Good examination of false teacher Sarah Young and her books.

Be sure to miss this event — it is a cornucopia of false teachers!

And they call themselves a “Christian” college!

Lauren Daigle — Another Christian entertainer who doesn’t want to offend with the truth.

These “ministers” are nothing but Satan’s wolves leading people to hell.

Great cartoon Glen!

I love it. Had the wonderful, joyful blessing of playing with Barbie's as a child, into my teen years even (which may classify me as a freak by religious standards, ha, ha!), imagine that! Also threw a baseball faster than my brother until he reached his teenage years, then he surpassed me by far, still played the game however, and had a strong throwing arm.....a "girl" no less. And loved the game of baseball and softball, serving well on our church softball team.

It's funny, Glen, how I can be condemned by "Baptist" women for playing with Barbie's because the figurines don't reflect an accurate "body image" of women, and even more jocular, is the fact that I am condemned by men for driving a tractor and semi truck with eloquence and ease, and done all to the glory our of GOD. 1 Corinthians 10:31.

No kidding.....had a "so called born again man ????" show up and my doorstep saying, and I quote verbatim...."I would NEVER have my wife drive a tractor and a truck. She went to Crown College and has her teaching degree, so she is far above that." With his head cocked back and a reviling look on his face, the Holy Spirit imparted His Will to witness to this proud man as I was blessed with the perfect time to give and answer to this arrogant religious man standing in my midst. What a beautiful, Holy Spirit moment this was....Glory to Jesus.

The ministry of the Holy Spirit supersedes any vanity of man......Barbie house, or not.....for we as born again believers in Jesus Christ, need not worship in buildings made with human hands. His Spirit is far above the ways of man.

Thank-you Glen, your meme gave me a good, innocent laugh!

Will be thinking ten times over, when church folks want to build a gymnasium onto their church structure...….the ministry of "basketball and yoga."

Martha...…..the one who trusts the LORD at His original transcripts.

Forgot to give credit where credit is due here.

I should reiterate the facts presented here.....Crown College is actually Crown Bible College. I apologize for omitting the biblical connotation as it does reveal the hearts of so called "biblical Christianity."

Where are all of those blessed verses on "pride."

In whatever we do, may we humble ourselves in doing this life all to the Glory of our LORD, in spite of our "wonderful selves."

Still chuckling here.....a wonderful "emotion" to have....laughter certainly is the best medicine....our LORD certainly knows His stuff!

Hi Martha,

I've dealt with similar legalistic teachings and "holy" people attacking others for "less than holy" practices. Women whose hair isn't at least past their shoulders are called "Ichabod," and if their dresses/skirts aren't down to their ankles they are enticing men -- especially if they wear jeans instead of the skirts.

Just like the Pharisees of old, THEY determine what is or is not truly holy. HAH!

Hello to Glenn, and Martha!

Martha - your comments made me chuckle. Oh, dear sister, we could swap stories about the legalists we've encountered! After all, I'm a (mere) girl, too, with some talents and gifting that the legalists would say "belong to men". :) But I'm with you, whatever I do, I I do it all to the glory of God, 1 Cor 10:31... and my husband heartily approves. :)

And yes, Glenn, I was once told I was sinning for wearing jeans, instead of wearing a skirt to my ankle, because (according to this misguided brother) jeans are men's clothes. My response was to tell this misguided brother than he can rest assured that the jeans I had on were, in fact, women's jeans, and not my husband's.

Glenn, anyhow, what a round up of posts. Sometimes it is surreal the things which are trying to be passed off by some as "Christian". I read some of the links, and just sat with my mouth gaping.

The meme - funny! The laughter is indeed good medicine.

Those KJVO Baptists can be a legalistic nightmare. Good luck confronting them--they'll just insist that what they are doing is not legalism and is indeed biblical.

Carolyn,

May our LORD JESUS continue to bless you, sweet one (that is you, my sister!) Truth be said, when my presence was required to start farming in the fields as full time as he could possible get me out there (due to the death of my husband's dad), I was literally a basket case, and if I had a dollar for every tear cried and every time I was yelled at, a millionaire I would be many times over. Due to the stress and damage done to me soul, this is the exact time I was on my knees crying hysterically, hiccupping due to the worn out condition of my respiratory system.....repenting of my sins on the floor of the house we left behind (abandoned at that time) and asking Jesus for His help in giving me His Spirit in getting through this life. And yes, I was broken, hurt, and abandoned by those who were supposed to love and support me, hence the abandoned home we left behind has significant meaning. I was "emotional" to the point of becoming quite dangerous to meself, and then, by His miracle, by His Holy Spirit, my soul was born again in the through Him. Never again, will I be the same, my old man was gone, and a new man (ha! ha!....woman) was created in me.....began reading, studying, and meditating upon His precepts for myself, and Jesus because ALIVE to me and in me! These mysteries of our LORD are quite powerful and at the same time, humbling to the point of tears. Oh, how great our LORD Jesus Christ is!!!

Carolyn, it was women like you, that gave me the hope, encouragement, and the educational direction to move forward in farming.....for at the local elevator, over half of the haulers were women, which opened the door of opportunity to observe, visit and meet new folks, as well as receiving encouragement, not only in ag practices, but also in my faith in Christ....His Spirit has no walls and no borders, He moves as He Wills!

A jocular note to you....."Can you imagine wearing a dress and complementary accessories out to the fields and how restricting and un-efficient this would be?" Oh, the absurdity of it all!!!! My hope is that my jeans are well constructed and the rivets hold at every stress point because I don't have the time to worry about me britches falling apart. The grain in the fields could care less if "properly attired" as God will surely send the snows.....don't care to harvest in the snow, YUCK!

Yes, yes, and another YES! Carolyn and Glenn, the legalists certainly desire little people such as us, to bow down to their worldly faith...…"after all, it's about how we "look" on the surface that counts, right?" says apostate Christianity......not only with how people "look" but also....how the buildings/ambiance looks to the outside world....interesting to me is how the Lord's mammon is used to polish up the "appearances" meanwhile Jesus continuously speak of the nature of the person's "heart." No amount of gold can make the "heart" look, oh so shiny and rich!

So this segues into a question that I have regarding the church legalists that surround me, who through their own personal judgements, label certain believers in the congregation as "worldly." And it's those legalist which are quite "wealthy and sit in positions of leadership/power according this world's standard," that are Webster's dictionaries on "worldly people."

So with regards to the "Barbie Church" of our day, it would be fair to say there are many a Ken dolls in these churches seeking the lordship of themselves in/over the hearts, minds, and souls of believers, instead of pointing people to the actual and only One that has the power to save, Jesus, our LORD and Savior. And He doesn't give a wit if a woman wears jeans, or eats bacon, or even if she fashions a pixie cut on her head.....Jesus....restores my soul.

Love you and your wisdom here Carolyn.....Merry Christmas to you!

Jesse,

The pope is a socialist. That's the reason.

Martha,

Thank you for your comments. :) What a beautiful and encouraging testimony! Press on sister, in all things in which you find yourself in life, as unto the Lord, your farming, your family, your study of His word, etc. You wearing a big dress and all that legalistic nonsense with today's modern farm equipment would be not only absurd, but it would actually be dangerous. I've been around heavy equipment. The LAST thing you want on around that stuff is clothing like big loose skirts.

I have a lot of respect for you working the fields. That is hard work, and work that demands to be done, regardless of weather. That brother who spoke down to you for driving a tractor and a truck was speaking foolishly. So glad the Lord brought you wisdom for rebuke.

The legalists want you to conform to their standards for one reason: it "justifies" their *self*. But who, rather Who, are we justified in? Is it not Christ, and as you said, the very Christ who doesn't give a whit if women wear jeans or sport a pixie haircut or eat bacon. :)

Glenn, seriously? "Ichabod" said to a woman for having short hair? You've seriously heard someone say that. Mercy sakes.

-Carolyn

PS, Legalists and worldly ones aren't always rich. They come in all income brackets. But Martha, sister, you are so right, no amount of gold (or no lack of gold, for those who think their poverty is somehow equal to spiritual superiority or holiness!) can make the heart look shiny. Our hearts, scarlet/crimson with sin, shall be white as snow only through the shed blood of our great God, Lord, and Savior Jesus Christ.

Martha, Glenn....heck anyone who is a brother and sister in our Lord Jesus, blessings to you. It's time that we get our joyful laughter back and in so doing let others know the reality and truth of both grace, mercy and truth ;) It always amazes me that Christians are so ignorant of what the Word has spoken about women's place within the Body; as if we have over-looked those verses that actually shed light on the help-mete that reveals we can be a 'force' to reckon with as we stand humble yet tall in Christ Jesus. First, we have those who went before us that reveal strength of character wherein we can speak forth the word of G-d (Miriam, Deborah, Hannah, Elizabeth, Mary, etc.), and then we have those lines from Proverbs 31 where it is pointed about the fact that the woman not only buys and sales property, she even takes care of the household and its' servants with the money SHE has wielded to the point that hubby gets to sit at the gates (aka, the courtyard where business takes place....both secular and spiritual). And, then, lo and behold what Jesus revealed! Not only did He allow Mary to sit at His feet with the men - learning the things of G-d - He even made a point to let everyone (not just Martha) know that He would NEVER withhold Him and/or His things from her or anyone who would choose to 'sit at His feet'. Take a gander at what some women got to do later when He was taken to be put on the Cross and after. As those strong and out-spoken brethren ran and hid, the women of G-d stood by their Lord and even were given the first command to 'go and tell' men that He had risen. How long will it take the Church to realize that we are to have love for one another, to respect and esteem each for the gift/gifts that G-d has given each of us. And, husbands ought to love their wives as the Christ loved the Church. If they did and do, then the Church would certainly stop trying to dictate who can do or be this or that. Instead, we would see the building up of a Church throughout the world that would put haSatan on the run (as it were).
With all thanks and praise unto our Lord and our G-d, be blessed and keep running with the chariot that the Lord has placed in your pathway! Until we meet with Him, shalom.
