Yes, Catholics WORSHIP Mary!

Hi Glenn,

I used to read Dan Phillips a long time ago, when he was part of Team Pyro. I didn’t know he was still around on the Internet! In “my files,” I had kept this quote from him about Mary:

“Here is something to ponder: ‘We don’t worship Mary. We just pray to her, attribute to her the Divine ability to hear thousands of prayers at the same time, focus on her, put statues of her all over the place, carry pictures of her in our wallets, make up stories about her, obsess on reported visions of her, go on at length about ways to live in devotion to her, and give her un-Biblical titles. But we don’t worship her.’”

Dan Phillips also offered this description of a proper view of Mary, which I really liked: “Mary, the mother of Jesus, is a pivotal yet relatively minor figure in the New Testament, of no more ongoing direct personal impact on the lives of Christians than any other exemplary (yet flawed) redeemed sinner depicted in the Bible.”

When I was teenage still attending RCC, I was a member of a club for teens at our church (“St. Mary’s RC Church” in fact) called the Legion of Mary. It was devoted to Mary, and we did nothing but recite prayers and devotions to a long-deceased woman with no special powers. If the priest leading the club had led us in Bible study to see what it teaches about Mary, we would have disbanded at the conclusion of our first meeting!

It is so sad that vast numbers of lost people who sorely need salvation through Jesus Christ are instead distracted by vain and futile devotion to His earthly mother.

Dan Phillips is certainly not an authority on Roman Catholicism. And, given his association with John MacArthur, that would actually suggest otherwise. That group of people is known for being academically unreliable.

I would consider Dan Phillips--as both a pastor of a Bible-based church and a seminary graduate--to be quite qualified to expose Roman Catholic error (and yes, he might even very well be a bona fide “authority on Roman Catholicism,” despite your assertion to the contrary). Likewise, John MacArthur was faithful to denounce the false Gospel promoted by the RCC. He also taught a right view of Mary, Jesus’ earthly mother--even featuring her in a chapter in his book titled, “Twelve Extraordinary Women.”

I'm sure it's not news, but not everyone who reads this blog knows this. The papists keep saying they don't worship Mary and yet the example proves otherwise.
