The Way of Escape

God will “provide the way of escape” [1 Cor. 10:13].  In early Greek, this was a nautical term that had the sense of a landing place.  The idea is not that God will enable us to escape temptation, but that He will enable us to land safely on the other side victorious.  Often the only escape is “to endure” (cf. James 1:12 but also 1 Cor. 6:7).
