One of the claims by many racist “Christians,” including Mormons, is that Ham was cursed with black skin and servitude. This leads to the teaching that blacks are cursed and destined for slavery. I’m always surprised at how many Christians don’t give a second thought to the fact that EVERYONE needs to know the Gospel message, that everyone needs salvation. Many liberal Christians teach that Adam is only a representation - a myth - used to teach about God’s attributes. This is especially true of those who teach theistic evolution or progressive creationism, but I even had an LCMS pastor tell me that Adam and Eve weren’t really literal! (This is NOT the official stance of the LCMS, by the way.) What happens to our theology without Adam? I think Jeremy Walker has a good response to that question.

It annoys me when I hear teaching that the Bible is figurative and not literal. Realizing some portions are written using poetic license does not imho distract from the true literal scripture. Letting scripture interpret scripture, studying His Word, we would learn the literal meaning of much we now take as figurative.
ReplyDeleteIf we want our world to change, then we must be willing to change. Praying for that change- beginning with ourselves. Each of us must recognize the world will always act worldly and we all need Salvation - saint or sinner, bond or free, all have sinned and come short of His glory.
