The English word “psalms” is a transliteration of the Greek title of the book. That is, this is the Greek word simply spelled in English or Roman letters. The Greek word psalmoi was first translated into Latin as Psalmi, and then into English as “Psalms.” The Greek word originally meant a striking or twitching of the fingers on a string. The related verb was used by classical writers for the “pulling of a bowstring.” From that came the idea of “pulling or playing a stringed musical instrument.” When the word took ons the extended meaning of a song, there was always the latent background of the stringed instrumental accompaniment tied to the singing. So the meaning of the Greek title of the book is “sacred songs sung to musical accompaniment.

ReplyDeleteHe keeps posting the same comment on article after article and has gone to two other blogs (at least that's all I know of) where I have commented and posted the same comments on their articles. His whole schtick is to tell everyone that I am a false teacher, he lies about what I DO teach, claims people can lose salvation by committing some sins while other sins don't get you lost from salvation, has very legalistic ideology, claims he's forced me to run way with my tail between my legs because I won't post his heresies, etc. I think he's also a KJVO. The guy is a pest and too much of a coward to identify himself so he can be checked out.
I truly believe he is a pawn of satan, possibly possessed.
That's just bizarre.

ReplyDeleteYour troll man sounds rather emotional and has a difficult time letting it be. This is to be expected as born again believers in Jesus Christ, for He was mocked to scorn, thus we (myself included) are to expect the very same circumstances when we put our eternal faith in our Lord and Savior, Jesus.
Many of us could write a book about those emotional foes that love to mock, scorn, and destroy us with their words and ways, many of whom belong to the church. Some call it spiritual abuse, while I just call it plain wicked and evil.
Bless is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked. Psalm 1:1 Actually, all of Psalm 1 is worth setting to memory as it brings a good, healthy reminder of the ways of this world, in addition to offering wonderful encouragement to our Christian faith.
Be encouraged Glen, when the evil doers revile you, for the Glory still and always will be found in Christ alone.
