Discernment and Revelation. Excellent article naming lots of those in the Spiritual Formation movement, as well as other practitioners of similar mysticism and those claiming direct revelations from God.
Michael Brown defends the indefensible. As noted in my last RAAH report, Brown cannot be trusted with theology.
Modern Day Montanism. A 52-minute teaching, well worth educating yourself about. He names names!
Be careful about what bands/singers you promote, in whatever way you do it (including social media). They may be teaching Christ from their lips while their hearts are far away from him with their sinful lifestyles which reject Him. (Or, in the case of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. e.g., they worship false gods!)
Church by the Glades continues to prove it is nothing more than a goat-pen led by false teachers. It is difficult for me to believe that these people really think this honors God. (And really, is sitting in old cars for church conducive to thinking about worship or attending a concert/drive-in movie?)
The Roman Catholic Church really needs to get control of their universities! These schools continually violate RCC doctrine and principles, and may as well just call themselves secular institutions.

Cedar Creek in Ohio is just another “church” who seem to think they need a secular concert to start their worship services. Interesting that I couldn’t find any type of doctrinal statement on their site, and they look to my like a bunch of goat-pens.

ReplyDeleteHow should we think of Michael Brown? I've heard him described by an orthodox pastor as, "A dear brother in the Lord with terrible theology." Does this go far enough? He's certainly "winsome", "likable", and "kind". But is this enough?
CARM's framework of apostasy:
* Primary Essentials (Nature and work of Christ) - Cannot deny and be Christian since they are explicitly stated as required in scripture.
* Secondary Essentials - (Nature of God) Cannot deny and be Christian.
* Primary Non-Essentials (Bible, Church ordinances, and practice) - Denial does not void salvation, yet principles are clearly taught in scripture. Denial suggests apostasy.
* Secondary Non-Essentials - does not affect one's salvation relationship with God. Debated within Christianity. Denial or acceptance does not suggest apostasy.
considers "Continuation or cessation of the charismatic gifts" a secondary non-essential. But aren't we talking about neo-Montanism, or just plain Montanism? Or are we?

Michael Brown is a brother in the Lord -- he's a believer. But he's very deceived when it comes to the charismatic ideology.
ReplyDeleteHe's a great conservative commentator on Townhall.com. He also has a good book series "Answering Jewish Objections to Jesus."
But he can't be trusted with discernment concerning charismania.
I don't think all charismatic/continuationism falls within the Montanism label, but the WOF brand certainly does.
