Via Doug Evans I learned this week that Greg Laurie is now on the heretic TV station TBN. As I said last time, he is sliding into apostasy for popularity. Read Doug’s article for more information about Greg.
Another horrid “Christian” movie coming soon will be sure to sell out many theaters, and the associated marketing of books, journals, study guides, etc, will overtake the “Christian” book stores minefields. “The Young Messiah” claims to be biblical, but since we know virtually nothing biblically about that period of Jesus’ life it has to be all made up out of peoples’ apostate minds. Of course it is IMMEDIATELY unbiblical by making Jesus’ brothers and sisters to be his cousins, because that is the Romanist teaching in order to keep Mary a perpetual virgin — a totally unbiblical concept. The actor portraying “Jesus” looks very girly - about as feminine as it gets. The list of apostates and heretics promoting it doesn’t surprise me. Save your money. (Here’s another good review.)
The “apocalypse” examined by a host of false prophets just demonstrates the mess that can happen when one leaves Scripture behind.

Mary Dalke has a very thorough post examining Sarah Young’s Jesus Calling book, with good warnings against it. The post also addresses ecumenicism.
To end with some humor, there’s a new Christian satire site, The Babylon Bee. I was especially amused with this article, while this one really pointed to the modern idea of teaching from movies — no matter how horrid they may be!

The Young Messiah actor who portrays young Jesus, wow, I see what you mean about his appearance lacking boyishness.
I did get a good chuckle at the GotQs link about so-called spiritual gift "tests"... because several weeks ago, after hearing a pastor talk about finding your spiritual gifts using an online test (he even gave the website), I started laughing to myself right in the pew, and looked at my equally bewildered husband. Gee, I thought we learned from the Holy Spirit (the giver of the gifts, per HIS discretion), and from other believers (who confirm His work in us) what our spiritual gifts are...?

But the most significant of all is buried at the end of the article about the Racketeering lawsuit against Mark Driscoll. The Seattle Times article states:
What remains to be seen is how all this will affect Driscoll. On Feb. 1, Driscoll announced that he was starting The Trinity Church in Phoenix. He boasted a high-powered group of religious leaders behind him, despite his past in Seattle.

ReplyDeleteYes, I believe Greg Laurie agrees with Rick Warren on just about everything. He has called Rick Warrens Purpose Driven Life a movement of God, has filled in for him at Saddleback, had him speak at his Harvest Crusade basically putting his stamp of approval on him to all of Calvary Chapel (over 1500 churches) and the evangelical church at large...this year 6000 churches and venues carried his Harvest Crusade.
He is also very ecumenical with those he may or may not agree with e.g., working with Roman Catholics, speaking at conferences with Christine Caine, Brian Houston, Steven Furtick, Mark Driscoll, Rick Warren, et al.
He has supported Contemplatives like Chuck Fromm, Leonard Sweet, Gungor, David Crowder...
He posts pictures of himself with TBN's Matt and Laurie Crouch and has spoken at Word of Faith events.
He tweeted for everyone to check out Steven Furtick's book Chatterbox.
I could go on, he seems to get a pass on this because of his evangelism but what is he leading them into? He had Levi Lusko (check him out) preach at Harvest this year and posts about him all the time.
At some point it is not guilt by association but guilt by participation.

Oh dear! The folks at Christianity Today are allowing a homosexual to write on the topic of homosexuality. Have they forgotten the meaning of Scriptures like 1 Corinthians 6:9-11? Was there ever a time when this site preached orthodox doctrine, Glenn? If so, how did this all happen?
