Are You A "Cafeteria" Christian?

“If you believe what you like in the gospels and reject what you don’t like, it’s not the gospel you believe, but yourself.”

Augustine, as cited by Erwin W. Lutzer in “The Da Vinci Deception,” p.110

  1. Pick and choose, pick and choose. Sadly, the way of the church in America today.

Take what you like, ignore what you don't like and keep smiling. God wants you happy and has a wonderful plan for your life.

May God forgive our idolatry and self absorbed theologies that have weakened the church and make us weak kneed Christians.

  2. True statement, though Augustine himself picked and chose all throughout scripture, resulting in his believing and teaching many theological errors.

As for the church in America - amongst the morass of confusion is a faithful remnant. That's how it's always been, though. Take heart Ali, you are in good company amongst the faithful few.

  3. Carolyn,

I agree about Augustine's picking and choosing, and he was responsible for what is now called "Calvinism."

  4. "But even a stopped clock is right twice a day."

That's the same thought I had later this morning. :)
