Scars vs Grandstand Tickets

As long as the church wore scars, they made headway.  When they began to wear medals, the cause languished.  It was a greater day for the church when Christians were fed to the lions than when they bought season tickets and sat in the grandstand.”
Vance Havner, quoted by J. Oswald Sanders in Spiritual Maturity, p.110, as cited by William MacDonald, “Believer’s Bible Commentary,” Mark 4:30-32.

  1. There is probably another persecution of the church coming in America. It is already evident in much of the rest of the world.

Will it be our opportunity to shine for Christ?

  2. It should be, but I wonder how well lazy American Christians will be able to do that.

  3. Yes, persecution will be our opportunity to shine - but sadly there will be far too many lights hiding under the bushels.

Let us pray that the remnant will shine even more brightly in the dark days ahead - but as for the church as a whole, I have my doubts.
