  1. Once again, we have a list of materials that are mostly from the popular level/devotional lane. That isn't a good sign from somebody who claims to be some sort of a leader. But it's also not a bad thing either, as Glenn is just a layman who has no formal training. He wouldn't know the difference anyway and should not be expected to. I gently steer my students away from authors like Geisler, not because they are bad, but because they simply could not compete with the standards of academia. They are a mile wide but an inch deep. Are these sources okay for the beginner? Sure. But they will not help you much if you intend to seriously study the Bible or theology.

  2. Carl,

I never claimed to have seminary training nor have I ever stated—or implied—that the books I read are seminary grade. However, contrary to your claim, not a single one is of a devotional type book. It is only your opinion that they are all “popular-level” material; some are but I don’t think most are. They are all very good for serious Bible study.
My blog is addressing the average person and must stay on a non-technical level. And except to the books with which I disagree with a lot of what the author says but use for apologetics, many of the authors I read ARE PhD scholars!!!
You knock Geisler but is one of the Ph.D.s and I only disagree with him about his take on the early part of Genesis. To downplay his scholarship tells me a lot about YOU.

My real question is, why are you, a supposed Christian, denigrating me and my blog just because I am not a scholar? Can you show me where I err in my teachings? I would think a real Christian would encourage me for teaching people how to avoid false teachers and cults!
Do you treat other Christian bloggers this way?!?

As for being “some sort of a leader,” I never claimed in my blog to be any sort of leader. But if you need my qualifications in leadership, I have had plenty of training in that area. In the Army during Combat Engineer training I attended a 2-week Leadership Preparatory School at the Leadership Academy and received an accelerated promotion to PFC. While stationed at Ft. Bragg I attended another “Basic Leadership Course” (passed as “Distinguished Graduate) and was promoted to Sergeant as a squad leader.
With the FAA I was promoted in 1986 to control tower supervisor and took Management Training at the college in Lawton, OK for a month and the following year took the second course for three weeks at that college. In 1990 while acting manager I took another FAA Management Training course at the FAA Academy in OKC for a week. For a week in 1992 I took management training at the FAA Center for Management Development at a college in Palm Coast, FL. January 1993 found me at O’Hare for a week training on “Managing Change,” and later that year another week there for “Labor-Management Relations”
With the Civil Air Patrol, when I was promoted to Captain as Deputy Commander for Cadets I had to attend Squadron Leadership School at the College of DuPage in 1993 and again in 1994.

SO, I have leadership ability when needed, and recognized for it by the Army, the FAA and CAP.
