We who preach the gospel must not think of ourselves as public relations agents sent to establish good will between Christ and the world. We must not imagine ourselves commissioned to make Christ acceptable to big business, the press, the world of sports or modern education. We are not diplomats but prophets, and our message is not a compromise but an ultimatum. A.W. Tozer

Random Apostasies and Heresies

Catching up with things around home, I find it is already time to post a random collection  exposing false teachers and other ways of blaspheming the Church.
Just to demonstrate even the cults have their apostate followers, this short article was in the June 4th Cedar Rapids, IA Gazette:
SALT LAKE CITY - More than 300 Mormon church members who are not gay drew shouts of approval and tears from spectators while marching in the Utah Gay Pride Parade in downtown Salt Lake City.  The Mormons say they sought to send a message of love to Utah's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community by joining the annual parade Sunday. Their participation marked the first time such a large group of Mormons took part in the parade, organizers said.  The Mormons, dressed in their Sunday best, included fathers carrying their children on their shoulders and mothers pushing strollers.  Nevin Munson, 13, carried a sign that said: 'Love thy neighbor as thyself.' 'I'm very saddened by the amount of hate in the world,' he said. 'I don't believe in that - they're humans.'
Everyone seems to be joining the homosexualist bandwagon!
Some Roman Catholics keep getting farther and farther away from the truth to where they are even farther away from it than the Church itself!  While the teaching of the “Virgin Mary” as being co-redemptrix and co-mediatrix with Jesus has been unofficially official for many years, now there is a petition to declare this as dogma, with Mary being proclaimed the “spiritual mother” of all people.  And the “Mary” who wants this says if this happens she will intercede for God to send the Holy Spirit for a “second Pentecost.”  I agree with Pastor Ken Silva - it sounds like blackmail on the part of “Mary.”
Steve Bricker has another excellent, thought-provoking post about worship issues.  Are we giving honor only according to our own terms?

The Museum of Idolatry has a few more sad examples of apostasy.  If you attend any services such as demonstrated in these examples, you are definitely not in a God-honoring assembly:
1.  This one is an example of a truly universalist “church” - there apparently is not ultimate truth with them.
2.  This “church” doesn’t want anything to do with the Faith; it wants to make you feel good and draw you in as would a rock concert.
3.  And now look at this video of some really, really blasphemous teaching, in a typical Word of Faith, “name it and claim it” hollering session:

4.  Not to be outdone, another seeker-sensitive goat-pen looks to be basing sermons on summer movies.
5.  Oh, and don’t forget “Biker Sunday” - although I have no idea what this has to do with the Gospel of Christ.  I wasn’t sure it wasn’t a circus I was looking at!
Miles McPherson, a goatherd in San Diego is having a porn star speak at his mega-church - and it’s the second time!  The porn star is not a believer, participates in paid debauchery which has ruined the lives of thousands of people who get sucked into the web of pornography, and yet this “church” leader is turning over his pulpit to a porn star!  A promotional poster declares, “Jesus Loves Porn Stars.”  The only problem with that is, yes, the Lord loves all people, but He doesn’t accept them as unrepentant rebels against God, as this poster intimates.  I find it difficult to believe true Christians would be attending this place.  Pastor Ken Silva has more about this subject.
Ed Young and T.D. Jakes are now sharing their heresy together on that wonderful TV bastion of heresy, TBN’s “Praise the Lord.”  These two heretics spend time as a mutual admiration society.  If you are following these guys, you are not learning the truth.
Speaking of Jakes, this man seems to be more narcissistic than President Obama!  He is celebrating 35 years in the “SINistry” with a huge event which includes even a Playboy model!  If you want to attend this show, it will only cost you a minimum of $150.
Another book of false teachings seems to be the latest fad among the non-discerning.  This one is titled, “The Harbinger,” by Jonathan Cahn.  I was recently asked to view a video by Cahn, about Isaiah 9:10, and how it prophecies against the U.S.A.  It was a 2-DVD series, but after half-way through the first one I had to stop watching because I was so frustrated with the abuse of Scripture and the implication of the USA being under a special covenant with God as was Israel.  This week I first read of his book, which is essentially the same nonsense in a supposed novel form.  The first review I came across was by Pastor Larry DeBruyn on the “Herescope” apologetics blog, and I immediately recognized the plot from the video.  Yesterday I received this month’s issue of the Berean Call with a review by T.A. McMahon.  Both these reviews are fairly lengthy, but if you want something shorter and to the main point, Pastor Gary Gilley has just the ticket.  This book is not worth your time or money if you are looking for proper biblical teaching.
One of the blogs I follow had a link to an article in Christianity Today (more properly titled “Christianity Astray”) which gives a good background as to why the Church is in its current state of “juvenilization.”  Something to think about and seriously work on fixing!
Believe it or not, there are more ways to commercialize God’s Word.  Publishers are so bent on making money off of God that they are making Bibles be more entertainment so you don’t actually have to read them.  Zondervan long ago left any semblance of trying to remain orthodox; now they have the “Playful Puppies Bible,” as well as the “Curious Kittens Bible” to go along with their “Stock Car Racing Bible” and all their other “sports” Bibles, etc.
Many people in homosexual-friendly goat-pens use the line that polygamy is a valid marriage practice in the Bible, which supposedly proves that marriage can be defined any way we want to.  I found this very good article refuting this claim and explaining that polygamy is really a “sordid tale” in Scripture.
Finally, an issue I have addressed in the past is the idea of generational curses.  R.C. Sproul has a good, short article refuting the notion of “familial curses.”
